arms help!!

Ok so i have a slight problem. A few weeks ago i pulled a muscle in my neck. Weigh gain and muscle mass build were comming on nicely but, i had to stop (obviously) for about 5 weeks to let it heal. While i am not over doing it still, as i dont wanna open the wound up again, i noticed that my build has increased i have noticed something really bad. My right arm is bigger then the left. Its only the bicep, forearms are both comparable, abs everything else is comming along in equal measures but this bicep is a fair bit bigger. Any ideas. I dont want to over do the left side, and i cant go mad to get them back to equal sizes quickly because of the injury. any ideas?? i dont want to stop working the right side, but i need to even them out. Any suggestions as to how to achieve this?
For those of you that dont know me, i have weights at home and dont go to the gym.

Thanks peeps

Lexx

try doing more reps with the left arm, and fewer reps with the right to balance it more, and once you have it in equal proportion, do the same reps with each arm.

Doing more reps with the left arm is worthless....anytime you want to even out a bodypart you hit the weak one with a heavy weight for 6-8 reps and dont touch the strong part. That means you work your left arm hard and dont touch your right one.

thanks guys, i know about hitting the smaller muscle with big weights only i am lifting about 6kg dumbells at the moment (or was on right and left as the problem occured) i dont really wanna pack on anymore weight because of the neck injury. So should i carry on with the 6kg weights on only the left? Or drop the weight on the right side and leave it as is on the left?
I just dont wanna strain the neck again

Lexx,

I've worked with clients with the very same problem and have found the following to be most effective:

Use the weight that will allow your weaker side to do 6-8 reps, however; use the weight for both arms. Your larger/stronger arm will not tire out, the smaller/weaker one will. Over time, the larger arm's muscle size will shrink slightly while the smaller will grow slightly, thus giving you the result you're looking for. As a side note, if you experience a problem with symmetry, I would suggest doing single arm exercises, dumbell presses, dumbell curls etc...so each side of the body is lifting equal amounts of weight without one side overcompensating.

Don't worry about the neck injury, i mean worry, but when you lift, do seated exercises to take the strain off, and dont look around. Pick a point on your shirt (if you're in front of a mirror) and focus on it through the entire set. You'll be able to see yourself and your form just fine.
