anyone heard of negatives?

I know some people in my weight room that sometimes do a negative workout or somethin like that. Anyways what they do is put quite a few 5 pounders on a bench press or curl bar or whatever they want really and do repititions until they cant do it or try to do the same amount of repititions each set. The catch is is that they can set it down to rest. After each set a spotter will take a 5 off of each side. This gets pretty tiring and totally kills you when you finish the whole workout lol. what do u guys think of this?

I think what you are talking about are drop sets. I think that they are good every once in a while when you are trying to push yourself over a plateau by shocking the muscles. I would not advise including them in as a regular part of your workout.

real negatives are when you take more weight than you can lift (say for bench) and have a spoter lift it up for you. next you lower it as slow as you can and repeat.

Yea i think the name of the workout i was talking about was drop sets maybe. I know about the real negative workout where u do too much weight.

Drop sets are a great way to push your muscles to the ends of muscle failure. At the end of a well planned drop set routine, you will be lifting almost no weight at all, but it will be more difficult than lifting the high weight you started off with.

Lol yea. Its sad and funny because when u get to the end your doing just the bar and its so sad that u can barely do it lol.
