Anyone have one of these ???

(have to remove the link..it's still advertising)

I actually read an independant review on scales that read body fat, calculated BMI, and other cool stuff, and this particular one scored the highest.... but was also one of the more expensive ones. Still, I'm considering one.

Anyway, the thing that got me to thinking about this type of scale, is that my absolutely buffed, and ripped buddy, is 5ft 9in, 195, @ 8% body fat..... and the BMI calculators say he is way overweight, in fact, close to obese ! Yea' right. His biceps might look obese !

Oh hey, their is a guy named Mariuz Pudginowski (sp ?) World Strong man 5 X's ! He's 6ft 0in, 320 lbs, at about 8% body fat ! Crazy, huh ?!?! Oh, and BTW, he eats 13,000 cals a day ! So anyway, I guess those BMI calculators would say he is morbidly obese :icon_bs:

Hmmmm,

BMI has been taken way out of proportion from what it was originally intended for. I don't believe much in what it says, other than if you are on either extreme of the scale, yes you should try to improve your health. Nothing more. BMI is not accurate for so many people, that it is hardly worth thinking about.

I have a 'fancy scale'. However i dont really believe it gives accurate readings. In fact i have never been able to get the body fat % thing to work, lol.

Those types of scales are NOT accurate in reading body fat percentage however, they are accurate in tracking progress. It might say you are 25% when you are 18% but if you lose percentage then it will show it same if you gain percentage. They work for tracking purposes but not for accuracy. I would also recommend the hand held one instead of the actual scale kind. They seem to be a bit more accurate.

Right on. Thanks guys. I will go do some searches on the hand held ones now.

Oh, and yes, I can see how these would be great for tracking, but not necessarily for accuracy. Regular weight scales are somewhat the same. For instance, every time I weigh myself at the hospital, then go weigh myself on my buddies scale, I would have gained 3 lbs.
However, 2 weeks ago I weighed myself on my buddies scale, then last week, on my buddies scale again. And no matter how his scale reads (high or low) I had lost 3 more lbs :)

......which is good, seeing as the BMI index says I'm still overweight. (again, not that I really put too much weight on the BMI index anyway) heck, if I can achieve my long term goals, I'll be darn near "obese" again..... obese with lean muscle that is ;)

Peace,
Fish
