Hello. I agree it is an additional challenge. I have three tips:
Tip 1. Take a lot of readings. Even if you've had the disease for years, you may need to take 10 a day right now. Yes your insulin needs will go down and that is a good thing. I am just restarting my focus now, and I need only half as much short term insulin as before, and 25% less of the long term insulin.
Tip 2. Try to keep things to a pattern, the more predictable your workout and eating times are, the less variables you will have to modify for.
Tip 3. Right down your food. I use the free one on fit day, but I am sure there are others. Again, this cuts down on surprises.
Yes, you have it harder than most, but you also have a greater built in incentive than most people. The hardest thing about diets for most people is that it is hard to really think Long-term when faced with an appealing short term solution. As a type 1 diabetic your body will scream at us with high blood sugars (or a demand for Insulin) almost instantly. That really can help level out the playing field. Good luck!
