Any truth in this saying?

“Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper"

Do you think there is any truth in this saying? Would help me avoid eating at night time.

absolutely!! think about it for a sec....food is fuel. we need most our fuel for the day in the morning....by lunch our day is almost half over.....by dinner, real close to being over. The later in the day we go, the less fuel we're gonna need for the day.

I would love to hear from someone that has specifically converted from an american style of eating (small breakfast, quick lunch, dinner feast) and now gone to this diet posted in this thread (king, prince, pauper).. specifically, how many calories for breakfast, and if they were ravishingly hungry for lunch & dinner... I struggle with hunger, which is why I do a low GI diet, but my calorie bulk is consumed between 3 and 9 pm, I would say almost 65% of my calories are post-lunch, because that is when the hunger sets in!! :)

Big breakfasts make me poop a lot.

Anyway, I think all of that "breakfast is the most important meal of the day" crap is just that...crap. It all depends on the individual. Some respond well to eating a large breakfast, while others respond negatively. So, I wouldn't look to far into that saying. It's just a saying after all - not a scientific blueprint.

I definitly think there is some truth in it!

A wholesome good quality (not necessary very high in calories) breakfast to start the day. This is is where many people fail by having a very poor or no breakfast at all and that will make them overeat later on.

A extensive and decent quality lunch that should be the backbone of the calorie consumption for the day. This is the meal that people usually succeed in having both quantitative and qualitative right.

A abstemious and low caloric dinner. This is where many people fail, having very big meals and an excess of calories throughout the afternoon and evening. Only people with a high level of physical activity should need to have big meals after luch time.

From someone who has tried it, YES and NO. Short term it does work, long-term no it doesn't. After a while I started to get very hungry at night, and that's when I did my damage.

The big meal at the beginning of the day sometimes left me feeling lethargic and just stuffed, I didn't want lunch, but ate it anyway to follow the plan, dinner alot of times was simply skipped because of the feeling of fullness, and about 9-10pm snacking began, or the wake up in the middle of the night for food.

So no, I would not recommend. I tried the sensible breakfast, big lunch, sensible dinner. That worked, because I got the bulk of my calories at the part of the day that I did the most work, I was not feeling tired and full so as to not be doing anything physical, and by dinner when I ate, it carried me through until breakfast.

JMHO
