Any Swimmers out there?

I will be swimming about 4-6 times a week. Planning on doing 1km per swim. I used to be able to swim 1km in about 23 minutes or so. Im sure I will probably be at 35 minutes right now but I plan on getting to the 25 minute mark within 4-5 months.

For me this is the best way to loose a lot of weight because I enjoy it. That's the main thing for me.

My biggest worry is the winter here in Winnipeg though. It often gets to -30 or -40 and I don't have a car so I will be on my bike. Right now it takes me 20 minutes to bike to the pool, in winter it will be closer to 40 minutes. I just need to tough out the winter and i'll be fine.
 
i used to swim all the time up untill the age of 14/15, i swim casually now and again but nothing like i used to

its great fun!

lots of people shy away from swimming because it exposes your body, tbh get over that Bleep what people think and enjoy yourself in the water :D

glad to hear ull still be going there through winter though m8 :D

Yeah, I've never cared what strangers think about me. Even if I see people I know I don't care cause I am doing something about my body. I seriously hope I stick with it through winter. That's the key to going to the beach this summer :p
 
I have just started going to the pool, because like you it's something I enjoy doing so I feel its something I can do without it feeling too much like a chore... and something I should be able to stick with. However I can't say how far I swim because I guess I'm not a strong swimmer, I just do a few leisurely lengths, have a couple of minutes to relax in the water, and then do the same again. So its not an intense workout for me but swimming excercises u all over and it's better than nothing right?

It's a shame you live so far from the pool though... I am only 10 minutes walk from the pool.

I have also started going to aqua-fit classes too which I'm quite enjoying...it's a good all-round workout. Although if you're a guy that may not really be something you wanna do lol.
 
I lost a pound by going 3 times last week and eating horribly. So once I figure out how to stop binge eating I can loose lots of weight.
 
I just started swimming because I want to lose few pounds and get into my usual shape. I am not good at swimming, therefore I swim quiet slow. My starmina is bad so I only swim a bit each time. I try to swim 5days a week.

This sounds a bit like me -I do swim a fair bit each time, but at a slow pace. I could go faster than I do but I pace myself a bit so that I can keep it up.

Bigreen -yeh it sounds promising, so good luck with sorting out your diet. There seems to be plenty around on here to help you out with that. :)
 
For sure, a lot of great advice. My swim today was great, I shaved about 2 minutes from my last swim. Im down to 31 minutes for 1km from 33 minutes last week. Another 13 minutes to shave off and I'll be happy.
