any runners on here

I have always walked but I think I want to get into running, anyone on here run? whats the best way to get into it? I know going out and running is one way but how can I ensure I do it with out hurting myself?
 
have you heard of "couch to 5k" ? that's what i'm trying... it's a set out plan, week by week, to get you into running. for ex, the first week consists of you jogging 60 seconds, walking 90, for a whole 20 minutes... :) google it.

I'm a runner! I started about 3 years ago (can't believe it, feels like ages ago...) and I absolutely love it!


When I began, i just did it. Yeah, it wasn't harder than that... just make sure to take it easy in the beginning - it's better to run slowly when you're not used to it... but the day you feel like "omg I just finished my route and it wasn't that hard at all" it's time to increase the distance ;)


I also think it's important to make sure you enjoy it... I mean, a plan is nice, but you should run because you like it, and not just because your plan says it :) but perhaps a plan can help you in the beginning, just to prevent you from staying home when it rains (or snows!) ;)


Good luck anyway, and I promise, there is nothing better than running to help you control your weight and health! :)
 
I'm a runner! Started in September 2010 with a Couch to 5K plan. It was so hard at first, I could barely run for 2 minutes before I felt exhausted and out of breath. I had to repeat weeks in the plan because I just wasn't ready to add to it, but now I'm running 2-4 miles 2-3 times a week with a weekend run of 5-6 miles, and I'm working towards a 10K race in May. I'm slow but I really enjoy it and it's a great way to increase fitness and help lose weight. =)
