My name is Crysta and I'm a 23 yr. old from Florida. I've been overweight ever since I hit puberty. Everyone in my family (except my bulimic aunt) is overweight so I kinda just thought there was nothing I could do about it. I now look back and realize that for the last 10 years I just haven't been taking care of myself like I should be. My problem is, I have no will power......at all. I'm good for a week and then I just lose it (not the weight, unfortunately).

I have PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) and my doctor has specifically told me that to get myself any better I have to lose weight. Right now, I am about 5'9" and 220-230 (haven't weighed myself in a awhile). I just feel so stuck. I don't want to be thin, but I do want to be at a more healthy weight.

Also, I'm getting married next October and would like to be 4 sizes smaller by then. Again, I don't want to be a stick, I never have. I just want to feel beautiful.

That's all for now though. I just wanted to say "hi" to everyone.

Good morning Essentia,

welcome to the forum. If you read around the site, there are a few other female members experiencing the exact same thing as you. (PCOS) Read their diaries and see if you can 'take something' with you to jump start your weight loss journey. Sometimes it just takes a bit of inspiration from someone else to get you going, you know? If you haven't yet, start yourself a food/ workout journal to keep you accountable. Also, if you're interested in counting calories you can check out either or for a free calorie counter. Best of luck. :D

Welcome Crysta... my wife shares your name. However, she spells it Krista. :)

You say you have trouble finding the motivation and remaining consistent. I think a lot of people focus, mentally, solely on the exercise and outcomes. After a week, they realize that this isn't easy and progress is very slow. And because this is their sole focus, once this realization is made, frustration sets in that's big enough to derail anyone.

This said, I think it's critical to develop a healthy mindset along with your exercise program. Stop focusing on the short-term. Set goals; daily, short-term, long-term, and ultimate. Write a list of aspirations that are packed with a ton of positive emotion dealing with what you want and why you want it. Read this list daily... more than once if you can manage. Sounds so silly and simple, but I can't stress the importance. Hang motivators up in conspicuous places.

Long story short, you MUST develop the mindset before you develop the body. If you don't, consistent action and long-lasting results will be extremely difficult to come by, if not impossible.

Best to you.

Hey you, I know you! So that means we can keep harassing each other about getting off our butts doing something :) I'm glad you joined.

Thanks so much Steve & MsGhettoBooty. And Steve, most people with my name spell it Krista. I couldn't find anything with my name on it (like pens, magnets, ect.) if my life depended on it.

And thanks for inviting me Ms. Pebble. :) I need someone to keep me in line.

What I really need is a personal trainer who will yell at me and make me cry. Force has always worked well to keep me in line. :willy_nilly: (I have no idea what that smiley actually refers to...I just liked him).
