ANOTHER newbie!!!!

Hi all I'm Kez,

I'm 21, a student in Birmingham, England.

I always used to be a skinny minnie, til I came to uni and piled on the pounds! (40 of them to be precise!!) take aways, alcohol, greasy cafeteria food and absolutely no exercise- not a very good combination!! just starting my third year, and I'd love for in my graduation photos to look like a slender (trying to think of a slim-looking vegetable fruit to carry on the metaphor but failing...) carrot?!?! rather than the chubby pear I am now!

Started new diet 2 weeks ago, restricting self to 1500kcals/day and walking lots (1hour 5 times a week-i walk everywhere!) it's working so far- but I know the weight loss will probably start slowing down soon, so I may have to drop calorie intake a bit more/go to gym!! :-(

Bought some fucus vesiculosus over the counter yday, supposed to speed up your metabolism. I am not usually taken in by such things but thought what the h*ll, I'd give it a shot!!

Already lost 9lbs, I just hope I can keep it up.

The problem is, I diet so much!! Usually fairly half hearted attempts which last less than a week!! My last serious attempt was in January, I lost nearly a stone but got bored, gave up and piled it all back on (and then some!!)

I REALLY want this to be The One though!! I have to stick to my willpower and avoid the temptation to binge and give up!!

Anyway, must go. I have to pop out and buy my housemate a birthday present before the shops close!!

I'd appreciate any hellos/advice!!!
Looking forward to getting to know some of you, the site etc.
Thanks
Kez

:-D

ps I hope my ticker thing shows up ok-I'm not sure I did it right!!

Welcome to the forum! Ah...the fresham 40! LOL! I think it is supposed to be "the freshman 20", but I gained about 30 or so my 1st year at college! I lost it all by the time I returned though. Cafeteria food can be dangerous...if you let it me! LOL

I remember those freshman 40 well - i think i still have them :D

anyhow, welcome to the site... sounds like you're on the right trrack... but honestly, i'll tell you the reason why most diets fail, is what you've said, you get bored and give up... forget dieting and work on an lifestyle change.. one you will take wiht you for the rest of your life...

Food journals i think are a valuable tool, and are two free, and very good sources for which you enter the foods you're eating and youc an see how you're doing on a daily/weekly basis.

work on primarily portion control and trying to eat healthier... I don't think you should totally give up all your favorites, there's no reason not to fit beer and other stuff into your meal plan.. just plan for it..

Good luck - feel free to start up a diary to record your triumphs and challenges.. look forward to reading more from you..

Thanks!!

Hi guys,

Thanks for all your comments and nice 2 meet you all!! (from your tickers it looks like you guys are doing well, good work!!!)

I know what you mean bout the lifestyle change, the thing is, that is so much harder than a crash diet that deep down you know you're not gonna stick to for that long!! I know it will be worth it though, and I'm trying to do it, and be realistic etc!!

:-D

Welcome! You certainly have a good attitude about it. I remember my freshman 40... and the ever elusive sophomore, junior and senior 40's... lol

Anyway, good luck!

Feelin good!

Thanks!!

I am feeling very good and positive this morning. I went out last night, and was really good! We went to a Latin place for my housemates birthday, and I checked the menu online beforehand and chose something healthy and low fat so I wouldnt be so tempted when I got there, and I managed to resist all the creamy cocktails and puddings, and only drank vodka and diet coke, and I didn't drink anything when we moved onto a student pub afterwards. So v proud of myself!

AND i've just weighed and have lost another 2lbs.

AND I've just been making up an exercise plan with my housemate Vic who is studying sports, so that should help along the weight loss too!!

Hope you guys are all doing well too.

:-D

Damn... looking at everyone's tickers makes me feel horrible. :p
Everyone's lost a few pounds by now and I've lost nothing. I think I'll wait to lose a couple of pounds before putting up my own ticker.
great work, everyone. :)

Don't feel bad!

Oh Don't feel bad, that's not the point of the tickers!!

You've only just started, bet you're loking forward to seeing your ticker thing moving along soon :)

I read the thread you started, you have about the same amount as me to lose! (cept I think in lbs not kgs!!)

I don't know how you're planning to slim, but I got a calorie counter book and am counting my calories. Allowing myself no more than 1500 a day. I guess that might be too restrictive for some people, but I am finding so far that the structure of it is helping me to focus. But you have to find what works for you and fits in with your life, and stick with that!!

Good luck :)

Welcome to the site Kezzybear! Congratulations on the weightloss so far - don't worry too much about the binges - just learn from then and get back into that saddle!
