Another dumb question?

Why is too much sodium bad for you. And does sodium make you retain more water?I apologize for some of these questions, but I am new to the whole healthy eating thing. And if I have to eat something with alot of sodium, is there something that counters it?

Thanks

it can cause cramps, it can make you retain water, but most of all it can cause high blood pressure

Sodium by nature is poisonous. It has to exist in high quantities to be harmful though. The body retains water as a buffer to the excess sodium.
