Goal: I want to see muscle tone/definition more than lose weight. I want to lower my body fat percentage. I want to look good naked ;)

Here's a little history about myself:
I am a 25 year old female. My weight have fluctuated much over the past several years anywhere between 120's to 140's lb. I have been in a very intense nursing program for the past three years of my life. Between the stress of school and working part time, I just didn't feel like I had any energy left to workout. I just recently graduated May of last year and started my new job August of last year. Over the past few years, I haven't been eating as well as I should either. Fast food just seems so much faster than cooking :(

Back around spring of 2003, I weight about 125 lb. This January, I stepped on the scale and weight 135 lb. With summer fast approaching and a Vegas trip coming up by the end of March, I want to start doing something good for myself. I want to get rid of the fat in the back of my arm and replace it with nice tone. I want to have a flat tummy for once in my life. It would be nice to get down to the 120's lb again, but even if I weighted 140 or even 150 lbs with that being mostly muscle, I would be thrilled! :)

I have so much student loans to pay off along with living expenses, I just don't have the money to shell out $60 a month for a gym membership. So I did the next best thing, I bought exercise videos. I started doing aerobic exercise workouts. I also started really looking into weight loss/body building websites to find as much information as I can to help me reach my goal. I also bought a very cheap smith machine that was on sale.

My current exercise regimen is alternate days between 40ish min of aerobic on one day and about an hourish of total body weight training the next day. I've been exercising about 5 or 6 days of the week with 1 or 2 days rest break. It seems like everything I read, people recommend 5 or 6 small meals a day. With my work schedule where I only have time to get in one lunch break, I just don't see that feasible. I do try to watch what I eat. Some days, I feel like I'm cutting down on my calorie intake. And other days, I do cheat. I can't stop my craving for having sweets once in awhile  And fatty food do taste better  Overall, I'm not on a strict diet regimen. At work, I'm on my feet most of the day, I don't know how much it helps but at least it's not a sedentary job.

I probably only lost about 2 lbs since I started back in January. Unfortunately, I haven't seen any extra muscle definition yet :( So far, the only major change I've seen is I get migraine headaches less now since I started aerobic exercise. I used to get migraines every week to every other week. I have been mgiraine free for about 3 weeks, which is a great accomplishment for me!

Anyway, I've blabbered on long enough! I will try to keep an update every week on my little diary to help me stay focused and motivated!

welcome to the site and to your diary - glad to have you here.

much success in your journey... and achieving our goals

Well it's been quite awhile now. My vacation is coming up around the corner. I have been sticking to my exercise routine very closely. Unfortunately I don't feel like I've achieved my goal at all. I still feel chubby. I can still see my belly sticking out :( My arm still looks flabby. Why is it so hard to gain some muscle and lose fat? :( I'm not giving up though! I am hoping to stick to my regimen for a long long time.

Hi! you are doing great & you have the right attitude. Maybe u need to look at what u are eating & work on that? Also put out your questions to the Harsh Truth forum. The experts there have really helped me!!:)

Hi!
I guess you haven't had much time to stroll around this forum for your busy schedule, so I listed a couple of links here, which might answer your questions.
General facts about losing weight&toning&etc. (Read all the way through..)

The whole diary of Steve is about helping people with their problems in reaching their goals. (There is a lot of good info there, but also a lot of other stuff, so sometimes it's difficult to find the bits you're looking for. But it's certainly worth it!)

Something that everybody should read about toning..

Hi Tenshiblue!

I see you are on the team for Casper's Countdown, and thought I'd come see what you're up to. ;)

Have you ever tried pilates? That will definitely help tone you up. And since you are close to your goal weight - you should measure yourself so that you aren't just relying on the pounds, but the inches too!

If you are toning up you will sometimes just lose inches, but the pounds will remain the same. It's too bad we have to rely on the number on the scale to tell us we are healthy. :(

It sounds like you are a super busy gal! My SIL and cousin just graduated from their nursing program - they both were in the same program, just didn't know each other! They are RNs now.

Good luck!

I do measure myself. It gets kind of depressing because my waist is still the same. It seems like all the fat just goes straight into my belly. That's my major problem area.

I haven't updated my diary in awhile now. I sorta took a break for several month after my Vegas trip. Now that I'm in the challenge, I'm more motivated to try harder! Thanks for stopping by SweetPea :)

I bet the challenge will help you to stay on track. I know it's helping to keep me focused.
