An Inconvenient Truth

I saw an inconvenient truth a couple days ago... it really shocked me as to how fast these changes are happening and how bad it could be. In the movie it said that both Greenland and Antarctica are losing ice at a rate so fast, that if all of greenland or half of greenland and some of antarctica were to come off and melt, the worldwide sea level would rise 20 feet. real crazy stuff, i know. also, ive been noticin this year that where i live, washington d.c. area, has been unseasonably high in temperature; this problem is worldwide. Bears in europe arent hybernating because its too warm, ive seen a couple cherry blossom trees already blooming, trees becoming green again, etc. In colorado, they just got a huge snowstorm once again, and it wont leave till saturday. i dont know bout the rest of you, but im pretty concerned as to how the earth's climate and seasons will be in the next couple of years if nothing is done about it... really crazy to think about. If you havent seen An Inconvenient Truth yet, defenitely see it, because it will change your outlook on global warming and the Earth's wellbeing as well.

I don't believe we are the cause of global warming its a bunch of crap. See the Earth recently came out of an ice age 10,000 years ago. 10,000 years is nothing to earth since it has been around 4 billions years. Since we just came out of a ice age, we are just going by a natural earth trend where things just naturally start to get warmer. What we don't know is if we are accelerating global warming or not.

They don't know how quickly the ice ages came on...we know prior to them, in dinosaur era, the areas they inhabited were warmer, humid...good for reptiles.

what I see in our universe is that everything follows a cycle, and that we know relatively little about how a planet actually 'lives' and its cycles.
it could be perfectly natural that the Earth has been warming up.

that's not to say I don't agree with controlling pollution, and agree that combustion engines have totally outlived their necessity...oil companies are buying up other technologies specifically to stifle them until the oil actually runs out, and then they'll own the new 'fuel' so they can maintain their hold over us.

I'm with Malkore on this one, the world lives in Cycles and we are temporary in habitants on this planet and we will be wiped out someday.

Sure we can be speeding up the process, but we are humans and we kill each other for stupid reasons. IE war.

Anyway, I am not worried about global warming, the earth will win out no matter what we do, we are only killing ourselves. I can only control what I do and live for today.

You're worried about what's gonna happen in the next couple of years? That movie has gone way too much into ya head buddy.

Yeah malkore isn't really right or wrong. Some believe that the earth goes in cycles and that we're simply going through a warm period but that's the small minority.

Kyoto Protocol - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - Go there and you'll see that they are actually doing something about it.

A year ago it was -22c on New years eve, now its +10c every day and feels like springtime. Was the warmest autumn recorded history this year too..
These extreme fluctuations isnt natural variation.

The Earth does indeed go through cycles, even the magnetic polaritites change with cycles. The problem is that the ozone does not go through cycles, greenhouse gasses are rapidly accumulation and we cannot change that. We also cannot say that this cycle is completely natural.

I am in no way a fan of Al Gore but people need to start waking up, we need to start complaining about this. I am sitting at a coal power plant right now working on plans to add a pollution control component that will reduce SO2 emmisions (I should get back to work) but there is nothing that we can do about greeshouse gasses.

We need to invest heavily in renewable energy now because it will take years perfect. The polititions need to know that we are concerned enough to offset the campaign contributions by oil and coal companies. We can only get the ball rolling with votes.

Even without the environmental effects, we are headed for and energy crisis. Wouldn't it be great not to depend on anyonw else for energy?
