An Experiment

I'm a 22 y.o. male, about 6 ft. 260 lbs. I have never cared about my weight (for superficial nor beneficial reasons), so I maintained the very common unhealthy diet around my parts for years. To make the story short, I care now.

I'm very strong-willed, so I have no doubts in my ability to change my lifestyle. I plan on slimming down first, then bulking up. I also plan on taking photos daily to map the transformation my body will undergo, but first thing's first - How should I lose the weight?

I don't want to pay for a gym membership because I feel as if it's unnecessary (I don't 'need' motivation). I don't like running around here (bad neighborhood), so toss that, but I do understand a vigorous exercise routine is necessary. I'm wondering if there's something I can do in my apartment that would perhaps sweat the weight out? I'm also on a budget. Any Ideas??

The gym is not for motivation (it can be) it's access to tools that you don't own or can fit into your flat.

....but.....

Look at this

Take a long look at it....

To me, the gym has always been for access to equipment, not motivation. And for what they provide, it's pretty reasonable. That said, if you're on a budget, consider a couple of sets of dumbbells or good bands, driving to a safer place to run (stopping somewhere on the way home from work, for example) and body weight exercises. There's a lot you can do.

Your actual question was how to get weight off, so let's not forget about diet! Losing weight is simple math, fewer calories consumed from food than are expended. Cutting out processed foods and simple carbs and sugars will make this easier and healthier. Just like mom said, eat your veggies (and fruits).

For cardio, a treadmill or exercise bike (or "rollers" if you already own a bike) will do the trick, but they do cost money. Is there somewhere nearby where you could run? No rule says you have to run in your own neighborhood, I don't much like running in my neighborhood either, so I usually drive a few miles to a nearby greenway.

Hope this helps, good luck, make it happen!
