AHey Erica,

How tall are you?

Weight loss surgery is a quick fix to a lifelong journey. You could get it done, but what happens when you have to maintain? Doing it the hard way will make you feel SO much better, and it will change your life forever.

Here are some tips,

Start drinking water. Cut out ALL the soda, if you feel a craving, have only 1 can a day (this is depending on if you drink soda, and how much you drink a day). Water is refreshing, and helps you lose weight. Make it a habit of carrying a bottle of water around with you.

Chewing gum is a great help (Frogged gave me this advice). Buy a pack of sugar free gum and when you feel a craving, but you don't actually need to eat, chew a piece of gum and have some water too.

For me, the weight loss really started to work when I started counting calories. You need to find your calorie intake for your height and current weight, a good site to do this is: http://www.livestrong.com/

Take baby steps, this isn't a race! You can do this, you just need to keep motivated! If you need to, look for pictures of people online that inspire you. Find that image of a body you want, and keep that in your head. Look at the journals here, and the threads in the Before & After forum for motivation.

What do you currently eat? The best way to start is to write down what you eat now, and then look up the calories. You'll be surprised just how many you're eating (the minimum is 1200, while you really shouldn't eat more than 2000 if you're trying to lose weight).

If you're a tad lazy, or find exercising daunting, then relax. Take it one step at a time. Start with your diet, and set a goal. Reach that goal, and then try exercise. If you have a bad day, don't panic! Keep trying, a bad day, or week happens, we're only human. You HAVE to keep getting up, there's no Game Over, this is an ongoing quest :).

I hope this helps. If you have any questions, just ask!

I've been there before I know what it feels like I used to be fat for years and years, I went from 165LB (120kg) went down to 173LB (80 KG) Six Pack is available for everyone but you need dedication you should first try to set goals, teaching yourself about nutrition is very important anything is possible if you really want,

I wish you all the best do not lose heart

AHi !Welcome to the forum!
Tell us some thing about your self height ,what you usually eat , your relationship with Exercise ect.If you really want this it is going to happen.

I myself have done many diets,I have actually also starved myself, and didnt loose anything. The Secrest is not DIET.its HEALTHY WAY OF EATI|NG AND LIVING
If you get that , really get that in your mind you will loose weight.

AS Loch said take small steps. There is no hurry, you will learn along the way , the way your body works , what it needs , and what to eat.
You should have plan and mini goals. It will help you a lot
Start by setting a target weight and then little mini goals inbetween, set a weigh day in the week, and then make out your eating plan.

One thing is for sure , turn away from fast food and candy.
It may seem hard at first but once you see your body change it will be easier!

@loch....thank you so much for taking the time to talk to me...i think this is what i need...its already helped me like..beyond what i thought it could..im only 5'5....and its so hard. so hard. im so young but being this young is whats going to motivate me even more...i cut out pop today ive had nothing but tall glasses of water at work all day. that doesnt bother me...but sweets...thats my weekness. its the hardest....that and not eating all day n eating when i get home because i have no time durring the day....its my turn i need to make the time....its going to be hard...but im not going to do the surgery...i wanna feel accomplished n knowing that surgery changed me n not myself...thats not going to make me feel any better. i just want u to know that u talking n helping me is...so much more then i could ask for. i think i need to talk to someone going thru or has been thru what im going thru...thank you so so much. and the other 2,..thank u guys!!!!! i have no idea how thankful i am!

AOh trust me, I still have a sweet tooth. Sometimes I still get a treat here and there, but they're just that, treats. You have to be smart and reasonable about this :). Anyway, try that gum tip when you feel like eating candy. It will help.

If you ever feel like you're crumbling, or depressed, you can always PM me. I come on the forum every day so don't hesitate to ask for help, or just someone to talk to! We all know what you're going through!

I agree with jasper 100%. The secret is a healthy way of eating and living. If you do that, you don't need to diet. And as an added bonus, when you eat healthy, you have more energy, your skin glows, your hair gets shiny... you just feel better almost immediately. It's great! And anybody can do it. Try and eat foods that are full of vitamins and nutrients, and limit processed foods (they don't have as many of the nutrients your body needs). Make it a point to get 5 fruits and veggies a day. Frozen fruit works wonders on a sweet tooth. And my biggest piece of advice: keep going. Even if you slip up and binge a little, get over it and keep going. One setback is no reason to quit. You can do it!!

Hi erica. Maybe I can help you. You've already made a big step by cutting out all the soda! I know that was dfificult for me. You'd be surprised how much calories you'd save switching to just water. An 12 oz can of coke has about 150 calories. It really adds up. Add that to how many ounces in a 2 liter, and you begin to get the picture. I know I used to drink many 2 liters a day, for me, more like over a 12 pack of soda a day (regular). Please when you're losing weight do it for the right reasons. Please don't do what I did. I'm not saying you are, but I realize now I lost weight because I was for both my health, but mostly aesthetic reasons. I felt if i was thinner and have more muscles I would be more liked. Please try not tot focus on how you look but how you feel, I think this is important. I'm not saying looking good is a bad thing, just for me I know it developed into an obsession . But I wouldn't worry about it.

Sweets are my weakness too, sepecially dark chocolate, baklava, coconut etc, basically all types of sweets. But especially those.

Maybe you could try making baby steps at first. Can I ask you something? When some people buy a candy bar, they sometimes buy the bigger ones, king size or even the huge hershey bars. I know my mom did that. But the important thing to remember is portion control. Look online for portions, you'd be surprised how much more america restaurants, and in general, how much larger our portions are than they should be. The normal portion of something is small compared to what we eat with our american diets and restaurants lead us to believe. "More" is not always better. In fact, I was walking by taco bell the other day and saw an advertisment on the window that said "New XXL Burrito, more IS better!". What does that teach us? That people in our society value, well, "value", even if that means more food and extra calories.

Anyway, sorry for my rant. If you like sweets, you don't have to completely eliminate them. But, if you're like me and have a large stash of them on hand, I would always go nuts and eat all of them. I can't control my life around them. So what I do Is when I buy candy bars or anything, I buy the smallest portion I can find. The right size (I believe) for portions is about the mini size ones. You could get just one of those, and eat it slowly. Eat it very slowly. First, look at the wrapper. Notice how big it is. Feel it in your hands. Open it up, and smell it. Slowly take a bite and taste it, hold the taset in your mouth for a little bit. Then take another small bite. You can do this with even a snack size bar and make it last 5 minutes. This can help you eat more slowly (and feeling fuller sooner) and enjoying your food in general more. I know at least, for me, I tend to scarf it down real fast. Even (still) I do that, after I lost the weight.

also I feel it is very important to incorporate some type of resistence training in your training (Weight lifting, push ups, etc). But, take it slow. right now focus just on walking. Maybe walk 30 minutes a day. Build yourself up to more slowly. The extra 200 calories burned from an hour of walking can realy help.

I felt it was impossible for me when I first started too. I know it seems that way at first, but don't give you up, as long as you don't give up you'll make it!

Best wishes to you erica!
Kevin
