Am I doing any good- please comment!

I am wondering if you can give me some feedback or rather comment on my weight loss.

I am 6 months post pregnancy and I've joined gym about 2.5 months ago. I did lose some weight and inches but my schedule is horrible. One week I can go to gym 5 times, one week I eat very healthy and then other week I am very happy if I find time to go to gym once and my healthy nutrition is not so healthy. To be honest, I am still getting used to being a first time parent and having a steady weekly schedule is not happening, especially finding time to eat 5-6 small meals a day.

Here are my losses in inches for past 3 months:

Waste- from 34" to 31"
Hips/ butt- from 42" to 37"
Thighs- from 24" to 22.5"
Upper body is just fine and I totally see some muscles and toning in my arms- I am happy.

I know that numbers totally show some progress and I did lose about 15lbs all together but are these number generally something normally to lose with such a bad schedule or is this just post pregnancy weight loss that's happening on its own?

Also I am back to my pre-pregnancy weight 170lbs (I am 5'9) but I gained 20lbs right before staying pregnant due to quiting smoking and now still have another 20-25lbs to lose. I am perfectly happy of being around 150lbs.

Now that I am back to my pre-pregnancy weight I still dont fit in my all clothing, my body shape is nothing close to like it used to be. I am wondering would that proper shaping go into losing weight or just toning or both?

Any way not to have such a strict gym and nutrition schedule and have better results then I am having now? (Wishfull thinking!)

And to add those 5 Lynn's tricks to lose weight, the only 2 I ALWAYS STICK too is having enough sleep at night and drinking lots of water.

Your help is very much appreciated.

You're doing fine! You are seeing results and are already at pre-pregnancy weight. Let's recap:

- You are a first time mom (GULP!!)
- You quit smoking (Possibly harder than being a first time mom!!)
- You joined a gym (NICE!)
- You ALREADY reached pre-pregnancy weight
- You are totally aware of eating 5 times a day (SO SMART!!)

To answer your question, yes a regular fitness routine and a good nutrition plan will help you even more. It will help with your energy levels and moods. The regular exercise will alleviate stress too.

But don't be too hard on yourself. You are adjusting to A LOT. Do what you can when you can. That's my motto. I am not sure about your situation... but could you take the baby to the gym's childcare center while you workout? Could someone watch the baby a few times a week while you workout?

Is it possible for you to take a walk/jog with the baby in a stroller? Maybe get some free weights so you can workout at home?

Just find a program that works for YOU. One that excites YOU and one that YOU like. You'll find that it will always be a challenge to fit everything in, but working out and eating well are priorities. The best thing you can do as a mom is be fit, healthy and teach your child a lifetime of good habits!

We're always our own worst critics... It sounds like you're doing the best you can with the circumstances you're in, so just keep on keeping on. Good nutrition though I think is your primary concern, and then working out second.

Keep up the good work.
