Almost at goal but not happy with my measurments!

Hi.
It's been a while since i've been here, but i always remember this forum and good advice i've been given here and as a part of my "journey".
Anyway, im almost at my goal weight( i actually already pass my initial goal, so im happy about that and i in the middle of my weight loss i thought i could get 6 lb less, so im getting there...) but im having somewhat of a problem. Right now im 4 lb to the "second" goal i've set but i right now the body changes and the measurements seem a little to high for my weight and i don't think this last 4 lb will make much difference. I mean, i can still go maybe other 4 lb less( so 8 lb from what i am now) but lower than that i will give me a low bmi and probably just isn't healthy.
Right now im 136 lb and im 5'4. I do have to say that i don't go to the gym(i want to for a while but im still not comfortable there and i wanted to go after my weight loss so i gain some weight but from muscle) and lately have been having the time, or sometimes just the mood, to work out. I do go for some longer walks if that counts for anything, but at least it makes me relaxed. Could the lack of exercise explain the measurements or will the 4 lb(max 8lb) make the difference?
Thanks for your time reading.

I just noticed that i didn't posted this on the section i wanted and it was probably the most suitable( on "the club"). If any administrator thinks it's better there and can move it there i would appreciate it. Thanks and sorry for the confusion

I'm 5'6 and my goal is 135. I'm around 159 now and was at 141 -my lowest ever (so far!) and trying to get back there. I would for sure suggest going to the gym - it amazes me that people can lose that much weight without exercising. Don't you want to feel tight and strong? I don't think you can get that with diet alone. I bet if you started exercising 4-5 days a week or even start off slower with 3 days a week and incorporate some strength training you will notice a huge difference. You might not lose a bunch of weight but your inches will for sure go down.
Also your BMI is currently 23.3 which is in the healthy range of 18.5 - 24.9. If you went down to 120 pounds you would still be in the healthy range - but I wouldn't suggest this without some muscle on you first!! I'd be curious to know what your body fat percentage is.

I would hit the gym the big thing is no one cares that your there but yourself.. and i think some weight training is what you need to hit your goal..

Hi Newbeginning,

Can you share what it is specifically that you are not happy about? Is it legs? stomach? etc.?

BMI should be used cautiously. I myself, have worked out my whole life, and I have quite a bit of muscle-mass. When I was in college, I was down to 4% body fat, cut like a statue, and BMI said I was "obese" haha... wrong.

My wife is 5' 0", and weighs 94 lbs. She is literally PERFECT in shape. Everything is great in a bathing suit, her legs/ stomach are taught, it's the perfect weight but according to BMI, she is "underweight"... BMI wants her to gain 25 pounds!!

Point is, BMI is flawed. It is a very over-simplification of something inherently complex, biology.

There are many other measurements that can account for how "healthy" you are, like bloodwork from the doctor, etc. I would recommend that you start working out by walking at a VERY brisk pace, and then progress from there. After you get down to a lower BMI than you are talking about, schedule a full physical w/ bloodwork from the doctor, and he/she will check you out and make sure you are doing no harm.

Keep working, and make your goal to look the way you want, just get some opinions from close friends (ones that will be brutally honest) to figure out if you are being overly critical of yourself!

Good Luck,

-Mellon

Thanks for all the help and advices so far.
The area that im unhappy with is the stomach. I think i have what is called "muffin top" and a little bit of love handles, and because we can't spot reduce fat, it will only go away by reducing overall body fat.

I didn't lose all the weight without some exercise. Ok, i wasn't going to the gym and working with weights and the cardio machines and all that because like i said before, i wasn't conformable there, and probably like primevci said, no one there cares besides myself, but still...So because of that i got some workout dvd's that i did everyday and i did in a morning one short workout and afternoon a 45/50 minute workout, and when sometimes i changed the shorter workout by a long walk or even add the walk besides the 2 dvd's and the results were good, even after i reduced the amount of exercise( i was doing that routine everyday for a month and 1/2). Lately im just not in the mood for all that, i try to make myself go a do one of those dvd's that worked wonders before and i end up doing everything besides that. But I already returned to my long walks today and i will get back on those dvd's and then possibly upgrading to the gym.

I try to use bmi as a help with my weight, but im going for with how i look and if i feel ok with myself or not, and without going into a unhealthy situation.
As for bloodwork, you are right and im going to see a doctor so he/she can see if everything is ok.

But right now im afraid that with not so much to get to my goal my shape won't change and i will still have this belly and not a flat stomach like i would like and i don't know if the gym/workouts will change that or not.

Once again, thanks for all the help:)

Hello there!
I know just what you're talking about! About a month ago, as i approach closer and closer to my goal weight, I saw that already that I was not going to look all that great. I'd be not fat...but not all that hot, either. So, I decided that I need to start working out more with weights and do way more ab work.
And I have to say that it has really changed my shape...even in just one month! I'm still 4lbs from goal and losing super-slowly, but that's ok. My main goal has been to look good and not reach a specific number. And I think you're with me on that.

So, I think you're on the right track. Working out more CAN change your shape, especially if you're still working the losing fat through diet angle....

Maybe you should take some "before" photos that show your trouble spots and then step up the workouts. That really helped me stay motivated...i'm not a huge fan of working out. LOL.
I bet you'll see a clear difference within a few weeks and be much happier...

Best of luck to you!

You can go as low as 108 lbs and be in the healthy BMI range, so I don't understand why you'll be at a ''low BMI'' if you lose more weight ! You are currently in the highest end of your BMI range.

Hi.
Sorry to only reply now but haven't had the chance to reply before.
magalolematelot, you are right, i must have made my calculations wrong or insert some number wrong and didn't notice. But 108lb i see it as too low, especially for a guy, at least that's how i see it.
I just returned to my workouts, let's see how it goes and if i stick with them.
