:waving: Hey everyone, so this is my first journal entry. Today is November 21, 2009. A lil bout me, im 27 years old from Toronto, Canada. I've been overweight/chumby chunksters for majority of my life. Definately not born with the skinny genes.

Anyway i started my "transformation" this past monday, today is my 6th day. And so far i've been doing really well. On monday, my weight was 194 lbs, ive been very tempted to check my weight everyday but i kno thats a lil irrational. So i figure i'll weight myself once a week, so every monday.

My goal is to lose 60 lbs, i would like to be around 135lbs, (i'm 5,5) so i would like to accomplish this in 6 months. I've done countless diets before, but i've never really committed to anything long term. My weight has fluctuated alot, usually between 190 and 170, and now i'm at 194... so its time for a life style change.

So this week, my diet has been really good. Been eating smaller portions, lots of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and lean meats. I've had a couple weak moments, like yesterday i had a slice of pizza, and a couple chips cause i went to a gf's house for movie nite. But i didnt feel too bad, cause i did do 5km on the treadmill too.

I've been doing cardio on my treadmill everyday since monday. Monday, i did 35 mins of a fast paced walk, and jogged towards the end on incline for 3 mins. When i got off i thought i was going to die, i couldnt get my breath. (i smoke also). So the rest of the week i paced myself, did sum incline walking, 5 min intervals of flat surface jogging, and regular walking. I did this for 40 minutes on tues, wed, and thurs. And than on friday, it seemed a lot easier, so i did 15 min-jog, 5 min-walk, 5 min-jog, 5 min- walk, 10 min jog, and finished with a 10 min jog. So i finished at 50 mins, and i did 5k. And than i went ice skating at an arena for 45 mins. So it was a good cardio day for me.

Today, i have not done any cardio yet, but the night is still young.
Gonna jump on it, after im done writing this journal.
It's really weird, i used to hate exercise, and walking. Since ive started on the treadmill, i look forward to it so much. I feel so great when i'm done, i think im addicted! Im thinking bout registering for a traithalon is february, it involves a 8km skate, 5 km ski, and 5 km run. I Hope i'm not in over my head. I'm really interested in it, but im not sure if i will be ready for it by than, its less than 2 and a half months away... what do u guys think?

Also, i wanted to get sum feedback from you guys bout strenght training and weights. I havent done any yet, and i'm not sure if i should start now, or wait till i've lost sum weight. I'm also not sure how often i should be doing them. I have a resistance rope, and a yoga ball, and two 10 lbs weights.
Any advice or suggestions would be great...

Thanks to everyone who has read my first journal,
i will keep you all informed of my progess, and hopefully we'll be seeing sum results soon... i will post pics when i get a lil "slimmer".. right now im too embarassed... lol..
Thanks guys!

Great job so far. I'm finding myself getting addicted to working out too. As for the triathalon, go ahead and give it a shot. What's the worst that could happen. I took the plunge and signed up for half-marathon in May and it's really helped to keep my motivated. That way you'll be more focused on staying active and your fitness and less focused on obsessiving over your weight. At least for me! :)

As for weights ... YES! If you're in a calorie deficit you're going to lose fat AND muscle. So it's important to work those muscles to preserve what you have. Read the stickies in the Weight Loss through Exercise section. Especially the one called "The Conceptual Side of Weight Lifting," at the very top. Steve really helped me to understand not only the importance, but the proper way to incorporate it into your workout.

Keep on rockin!

Thanks! yah i did take a look at that thread, very long, but i see what u mean. I understand more now how muscles and weight training works.

This week i'm going to incorporate resistance training and weights into my workouts. I plan on doing this three times a week, and im gonna keep doing my cardio (treadmill) everyday.
I've been doing 5km (3m) a day on the treadmill, and i feel so great and full of energy everyday!

Also, just to let yall kno, today is monday!! so 1 week down, and i've lost 2.2 lbs since last monday. Now i'm at 191.8 lbs. 57.8 lbs to go... eeekkk!

So, today i started my resistance training, and muscle exercises.
I started off by doing 30 mins/ 2 miles on the treadmill.
I did 40 squats/ 20 per leg, sum bicep curls, shoulder presses, 60 sit ups, and sum thigh exercises which i have no clue what they are called.

Since i'm exercising at home, im very limited to what kind of exercises i can do. I dont really kno any other ones, does anyone have any ideas they can throw at me....?

As for my diet, today i did very good all day. However, I could have eaten more vegetables, all i had all day for veggies for a huge salad for dinner, with a small bowl of whole wheat pasta.

Just to let ya in on what im eating most days,
for breakfast i'll have:
- whole wheat rice krispies with 1 cup of 1% milk
- 1 slice of whole grain toast with thinly spread peanut butter
- 1 slice of whole grain toast with 1 egg
- 1 slice of whole grain toast with 1 scrambled egg and two slices of turkey bacon
- fat free yogurt with berries
- granola bar or a meal replacement shake when im in a rush

* i also have sum fresh fruit along with these breakfasts, usually an apple of strawberries, or grapes.

for lunch i'll have:
- salad with chicken in it
- whole grain sandwich with roasted turkey breast or ham, very thin slice of cheese, and 1/3 of a cucumber or red pepper
- i can of tuna, mixed with a lil bit of olive oil, diced pickle and salt and pepper, with melba toast,
- a shake if i'm lazy
- whole wheat tortilla with chicken usually and veggies
- cream of mushroom soup with 1 slice of whole wheat toast

for dinner i'll have:
- whole wheat pasta with a salad
- grilled fish or chicken with veggies, and a small portion of either rice of potato (boiled, no butter)
- rotisserie chicken
- home made pizza (1/4 of a medium size) on whole grain thin crust, with low fat cheese, and lots of veggies, and usually the only meat i put on it is ham
- salad with chicken

thats pretty much it, its everything i like to eat, and know how to make thats not high in fat or carbs.

You ask about exercises at home...

My friend Kara put some exercises into the diary of a friend on another diet forum a few days ago. Here is the link - it may help.

There are some other cheap exercise options listed over there so it may be worth having a look around while you are there.

Thanks Omega, i will definately take a look at it.

So... today is a bad day for me. Me and my boyfriend broke up last nite, and right now i feel like getting shit faced. That is my problem, i want to drink when im depressed. I kno drinking wudnt be very good for my weight loss right now, i dont kno what to do
any suggestions?

Hey Allie! Welcome to the board :) You're doing great, congrats on the weightloss this week! Your meals oook good and similar to mine, but when I first read it I thought that was everything you eat for one meal!

Sorry to hear about your bf :( Instead or drinking, try exercising. It really does help to burn off any anger or stress. Try it out!
