Alex's Stuff

I am 22 years old and hit my highest weight ever a couple months ago, 245. I joked with a friend of mine that if myself three years ago could see me now, my old self would beat the hell out of my new self out of disgust:eek: . After saying that, I realized it was true. I had really let it go. I am engaged and am expecting a new addition to our family in October. My fiance is pregnant and that is when she is due:D . This is really what triggered me to lose some weight. It was actually a number of factors that all relate back to our new child. Here is what they were in no particular order:

Family. Some of my greatest memories are me and my family playing sports together. My father, grandfather, uncles, aunts' boyfriends etc. I am still in better physical condition than most obesce people, I just want to be able to chase around my little kid without weezing (exageration).

Finances. I make enough money where I work to support myself and to have my fiance go to school full-time and work part-time. We ate out a LOT! We have both gained significant poundage since we started dating nearly three years ago. We need to save this money we normally wasted for more important things, like baby food, diapers, etc.

Employment. I dropped out of college with 80 credits. I absolutely hated school but now, with a child on the way I am more motivated to find a better job. I want to attempt some of the Civil Jobs in the area which have physicals involved.

This isn't the first time I've started getting back in shape, excercising, etc. I do this probably once a year, you know, lose 20 or so pounts and then stop caring, gain it back and then some.

People mention triggers, my biggest one is boredom. If I'm bored, I eat, especially at work. I work at RadioShack where there was a statistic passed around that roughly 20-25% of the time, employees are doing nothing. There is a pizza shop and a Wendy's in the same plaza, when I'm bored, I just wander over to those places. Even if it's just a soda, every little bit counts. When I'm at home, eating usually pairs itself with computer use or television watching.

Recently, I have started attempting to eat better and have purchased a membership at the city gym. $80 for 4 months is not bad regardless of anything. They have a short suspended track around the basketball court where 11 laps equals one mile. I've been doing 18 laps (you need to do 1.5 miles in 12:51 to be a NYS State Trooper) jogging the first 16 and going, pardon the term, balls to the walls for the last two, then huffing and puffing around for one last lap. I love the feeling of that last push, I can't help it. Going flat-out, 100% as much as you've got, I do the first 16 laps just for the last two.

My hobby, geocaching, has really gotten me out of the house. I recently climbed my first mountain in search of a geocache. It was Baker Mountain in Saranac Lake, NY. It was a 0.9 mile walk to the summit going up 30 degree inclines. There was no traversing here, it was straight up rock.

Those are pretty much the basics. Last time I weighed myself, I was 235, that was 4 days and a bachelor party ago. I want to be 180 by the time I get married next June.

Here are the requirements to be a State Trooper for New York State (and Vermont too). For 20-29 year olds they are as follows:
38 bent-knee sit-ups in 60 seconds
29 push-ups without a break
16.5" forward flex
12:51 1.5 mile run.

Here is where I am at:
20 sit-ups total
18 push-ups
13.5" forward flex
I don't time myself yet, I am happy pushing myself to run the 1.7 miles I do.

:) :D Let's DO IT!:D :)

Wish me luck!

Also, I'm all for Metal/Techno when running. Some Killswitch or some DJ Icey and you have one happy Alex.

Welcome to your diary! And congratulations on the new babe! One of the things I am losing weight for is because I want to have a baby and whilst I am not so overweight that I would not be able to conceive, I would like to see me skinny and lovely for a little while before I go baby-induced fat ;)!!

Well anyway, good luck on your life style change that will lead you and your family to better health and more fun, xxMilaxx

I know what you mean about wanting to be able to keep up with your kiddo... that's one of my reasons too... Congrats on the baby! :D And btw- welcome! :) Best of luck to you!

After looking at a couple workouts. I found one that I like. It starts at the top, shoulders, chest, arms, and goes down to the legs. I have a tendency to get the adrenaline going and forget to take a proper break between sets which makes it a real ass kicker, especially when you are working the next set of muscles. The worst part is trying to run after just working out your legs, it is some SLOW going. I do that workout, then skip a day working out, while still doing to same running.

I've also figured out how to cheat my mind while still running as far as I want. I count the laps until my kick (16), instead of counting everything together (18). So it's run for 16 laps, sprint for 2. Every little bit counts when you're dying :D .
