here goes nothing i guess.

-- How much weight do you want to lose?
I want to weigh the healthy weight for my height (147lbs) which is alot less than I thought it would be.

-- What is the timeframe for reaching your target weight?
I do not really have a set time frame, if anything, maybe by next birthday, so about 15 months?

-- How do you want to accomplish your goal (what methods do you want to use)?
Well, at this point i have just been trying to eat less and healthier (anyone know of tasty healthy food?) and I TRY to get to the gym at least three times a week...

-- Who or what can support you in reaching your goal?
I am not sure, I used to have a workout buddy and that helped quite a bit, however she got busy (aka a guy) and now i am finding it much harder to get motivated

-- How realistic is your goal?
it is apparently what people my height are supposed to weigh so i guess its ok, feels like alot to me right now though

-- When will you start?
I already have, off and on for the past several months, I need to keep it consistant!

thanks for listening, any tips are always greatly appreciated!!

Hi Alexia :)

Welcome to your diary!

Your long term goal isn't unrealistic, but as you get closer to it, you can always re-evaluate it and adjust the goal as you need to in order to account for bone size, muscle mass, how you feel, etc.

I have found being committed is the #1 key to changing my lifestyle. Seeing results is a reminder that what we're doing is the right thing! I started like you, by just reducing my portions, but then I got a bit more serious about it and started counting calories. I never wanted to do that, didn't want to get 'obsessed' however, I think I was in denial over how much I was eating even when I *thought* I was being good. By keeping track, I know how much I can eat and still lose weight, and I eat whatever I want - and if that means having pizza with my family then I do it - without guilt - I just know when I need to stop, and really, in the long term scheme of things, that's what we NEED to know in order to keep the weight off.

Good luck and remember, you don't need a work out buddy to do what you need to do to reach your goals :D You CAN do this!!

You have us now!!! Welcome to your diary. :D
Consistancy is definately the key. It would probably help to make some mini goals a day or a week at a time, so that it doesn't seem so overwelming.

Hey Alexia,

Welcome. I my self am a newcommer, to this forum that is...
If I should give any advice, it would be to eat fruit and veggies... Being a farmers daughter I know an apple is not just an apple and that goes with every fruit and veggies...
Anyway another thing is to plan. It is some jungle the world of diets: excercise or no excercise, counting calories or points like weight watchers and so on... Just find the one you feel most confortable with... and most of all one that feel do-able
For more you can always read others peoples diaries in here. Many them come with suggestions and inspiration.
PS: I think there is somewhere in here with recipes, but being new I still havent found it, otherwise you can always find some on the web.

thanks

thanks for all your comments.

I signed up on that fitday.com site... It seems like i either eat too much or to little, i definatly havent reached a happy medium. I am at 1000 cals or so today... we shall see how it goes. I cant seem to stop eating after 8pm or whatever the time is that your supposed to. I need to work on that this week...

so i've noticed that everyone in here is all about the fruits and veggies, why? it may be a stupid question, but there it is. are some better than others, is it just for the nutritional value or can they help you lose weight?

That said, have a nice day!

Most fruits and veggies are good for you. One kind of exception that comes to mind is the avocado, which is high in fat but has other nutrients that are good for you.

The great thing about fruits and veggies are that they are low in calories and in most cases contain little to no fat. Which means you can fill up on those (as long as they're prepared properly i.e. not deep fat fried or covered in sugar). Usually the fruits and veggies that are higher in nutrients are also deeper in color.

For example, carrots are a very deep color and are packed with nutrients, and iceberg lettuce is very pale green and has very little nutritional value. This is not to say that eating iceberg lettuce is bad for you. It's actually good for you, especially if you're replacing fries with a side salad.

Still with me, great! :D Eating fruits and veggies may not necessarily help you lose weight. It's all about making better choices. Another example, if you are replacing, say, a peach for a snickers, you're saving yourself about 300 calories. So theoretically, you could eat 6 or 7 peaches for that one candy bar. Bet you'd have killed that sweet tooth and gotten pretty full in the process. Pretty good deal, huh. So, in that aspect, yes, you could say that they help you lose weight. You're going to find that by adding fruits and especially veggies to your diet that you're going to be able to have more food and stay full for longer.

OK, I'm done. Hope it helps a little.

bad night

ugh, last night, had a couple drinks... bad for me. then J was like "lets go to denny's"... worse for me. half a cheeseburger and lots of fries in the middle of the night. i probably couldnt have made a worse choice. oh well. :(

I did go to the gym this morning, i tried to puch it a little harder than normal for being oh so very bad last night. but i do feel so much better after i work out. 45 min on the elliptical, couple of laps around the track, and my regular wieght machines. it was a good workout this morning.

now i just need to get the motivation to clean :p

Hey Alexia,

Good on you for getting back in the saddle. Slip ups can happend, so don't beat yourself up about it, just try and get past it and keep up the good work (like you already are)

never move to wi

it is so hot today. over100 degrees with at least 60% humidity. ugh, and it was my day to stand out in the lot. long day. makes it hard to get to the gym when i dont even want to step out of the front door. I've been eating pretty well today, less than 1000 cals so far, and working outside made me drink lots and lots of water. if i can get to the gym and eat about 400 more cals today will have been a good day. :)

I feel hungry a lot of the time. but i'm learning to just cope with it. on a side note, GREAT NEWS!!! school approved my appeal so i can go to africa! yay! ate carrots and grapes and carrots for snacks today, had chicken and pasta for lunch, cereal for breakfast, and now a lean pocket. but i'm sooo hungry.

i would kill for something deep fried.

another day. did pretty well today. sorry if this is abit distracted, my roomates cat thinks i'm a scratching post.

anyway, had some cereal for breakfast, potatos, carrots, and an apple for snacks, and a ham sandwich for lunch...

dinner however... so my father decided to treat me to dinner... at culver's. for anyone who is not farmiliar with Culver's they are a fast food joint thats famous for thier "butterburgers" and frozen custard. i think that says enough, its like mcdonalds plus grease and fat. if anyone wants to gain a pound in one sitting have a butterburger deluxe with everything... mmm thats tasty. but i did ok, i had the fish, which while still fried, dosent make my heart hurt after i eat it. my father insisted upon desert so i did get a small custard shake, but i only ate about 1/3 of it (i'm saving the rest though).

I was going to go workout tonight. but its kind of late and i opened at work this morning so i think i am going to have to do it tomorrow morning before joel comes over. thats not really a big deal, i already worked out three times this week so i reached my goal for now. and my fit day says i am still under 2000 cals by a bit. not as much as i would like, but not over. and thats what counts.

i have jjo bandcamp on sunday!!! I cant wait!!! :)

Hey Alexia,

Seems to be going just fine with your goals. Good on you for the way you handled going to culver's - sounds like a place of big temptations and weightgained just by entering the shop, but its also sounds like you did just great.
Keep up the good work!

today wasnt bad. i had kind of a heavy breakfast (pork and rice  ) then joel took me out to lunch for mexican. I had beef burrito. not bad. oh and a cookie! and now i am having noodles for dinner. not exactly tasty but they will keep me feeling full.

So i quit smoking about 3 days ago, and i was wondering if that will have any affect on my weight loss? a lot of information says you gain weight when you quit... is that just because you replace ciggs with food or do they actually affect your metabolism somehow... i hope not.

WJJO BANDCAMP TOMORROW!!!!

9-9 on willow island... i am so excited! they just anounced that crossfade will be there too!! :p

My husband and I took a cross-country road trip a few weeks back and we passed through Madison Wisconsin. It just so happened that there was a Culver's really close to our hotel...and not knowing what we were getting ourselves into we went. You are 100% correct....it's freakin' yummy. I have a culvers version of a DQ blizzard and I could only eat about 1/3 of it (the small was huge!!!!). It was yummy though.

Yeah, it's just because people replace the habit of bringing something from their hand to their mouth. That's why you'll get a lot of suggestions to chew gum to keep you occupied. LOL

about the gym

had a really good workout tonight. i always get alot more out of my workout when i do it alone. but i am always alot less motivated to actually go to the gym when i am alone. anyway, burnt about 600cals on the ellipitical and spent some extra time on my upper body and stomach on the weight machines instead of just focusing on my legs like normal.

i really like my gym. They have TONS of machines so you never have to wait, tvs on most of the machines, and they are open 24 hrs.

however, for some reason they felt the need to line the walls corner to corner with mirrors (all the walls but one). i like to walk around the track after my workout to cool down and i do NOT like to look at myself all sweaty and in gruby sweats and a t-shirt. It really bothers me.

I decided that one of my goals is to be one of the girls at the gym who checks herself out in the mirrors instead of staring at the floor.

and i went to the gym 4 times this week! one more than i thought i would be able to yay! the scale still only says 209 though. :(

Band Camp!

Thanks Manaloa! I hope this week goes as well!

Band camp yesturday was was awesome. it poured in the morning so everything and everyone was just mud. And i only bought one cup of over priced beer. however, i didnt drink much water (at $3 a bottle i couldn't justify it). thats ok i managed to avoid the tasty fried cheese curds and i'm sure i burnt off some cals moshing around in the mud.

I got sooo sunburnt though. my face looks like this  one of my customers today looks at me and goes "oh my god you are RED!" i didnt really enjoy it, but no one could see me blush :)

today i have been eating pretty well. a salad for lunch and lots of celery for snacks. but i dont think i am going to make it to the gym, my face hurts too much.

I have set a few new goals for myself due to bandcamp:
1. To be able to wear a tank top in public and be comfortable
2. To be able to body surf, not just get kicked in the head by them
3. To be someone who gets looked at twice.

thats all. have a nice day. my ac froze again.

ohhh sunburns hurt, Im blonde and burn easy so I feel your pain, aloe vera lotion usually helps reduce the pain and redness.
