Alcohol and Weight Training

Being in college these two conflict a lot. What is the physiological affects of alcohol while training, does anyone know?

hang over ... no energy, feel like crap. not good for working out.
its also full of calories and has no nutritional value.

Im aware of all that. But assuming you get zero calorie drinks, such as bacardi limon and diet coke, and don't drink so much your hungover, is there any other negative aspects?

I'm in the same boat as you. I try to limit myself to 2 drunk nights per week and I try not to pass out drunk and I always try to drink as much water as I can before I go to sleep.

it slows your metabolism down for several days afterwards if you drink enough to be significantly drunk.

(and hey, if you can't have friends without alcohol - maybe they're not your friends)

I agree on the friends thing. As for the metabolism thing--that wouldnt be too bad..(real fast)

There is not such thing as a 0 calorie drink. Alcohol has 7 calories per gram.

Alcohol inhibits protein synthesis, causes dehydration (the muscle is ~70 water), decreases vitamin absorption, and increases fat storage through kreb's cycle disruption.

One or two drinks in moderation won't make a bit of difference...habitual binge drinking (i.e. college partying) will cause significant problems with recovery and muscle growth.
