Aisha's Diary....

Hi, I'm a newbie to the group. My name is Aisha and I'm 24 years old and am currently on a deployment w/ the US Navy.
I have to weigh myself again on Monday b/c I just have a "guess-stimation" of my weight of 183lbs. I weigh myself every Monday, so if this is the wrong weight I will edit the number.
I would first like to take the time to answer the questions that need to be addressed:
-- How much weight do you want to lose? 50 lbs

-- What is the timeframe for reaching your target weight? June-July 2007

-- How do you want to accomplish your goal (what methods do you want to use)? Exercise 5x/wk, eat healthier, and become more organized

-- Who or what can support you in reaching your goal? Friends, Family, and this forum

-- How realistic is your goal? Very realistic

-- When will you start? Started Monday of this week, 12 FEB

I have pretty much battled w/ my weight since I was 15. I use food as comfort when I'm happy, sad, upset, etc. I'm just now beginning to see what a problem I have on my hands.
When I joined the Navy in 2001 I had around 20 lbs to lose in order to be accepted. I dieted and walked A LOT... After 2 months I got all the weight off.
This week I started working out 2x a day. I get up at 430 and do a group exercise from 5am-545am consisting of jumping jacks, standing crunches, running in place, crunches, flutter kicks, and ending w/ running laps around the Ship or doing sprints.
When I get home my routine will change a little. I won't workout again at 1030 instead that will be substituted by walking my 2 cocker spaniels separately.
Then at 1030am my friend and I head to the gym and run a mile, weight lift (rotate arms and legs each day), and do 15 min of abs.
My eating habits are cereal and a cup of coffee for breakfast, salad or tuna sandwich for lunch, dinner varies, either peanut butter and jelly sandwich, ramen noodles, or if they have something tasty on our food line I will get small portions of food.
I'm drinking nothing but water, no sodas, and one sweet this week.
Well so far that's all I have for today. More to come tomorrow...

welcome to wlf aisha :)
congrats on taking a step towards a better lifestyle - everyone on here is doing the same so maybe if you want motivation or inspiration then check out some of the other journals here of people who are already nearly reaching their goal.
and also cutting out soda is so important - i read last week that just by cuting out one can of soda a day for a year = 15 lbs less fat!!
do you know what your daily calorie intake is supposed to be for your height/ weight/lifestyle etc?

I'm not sure what my daily calorie intake is suppose to be???

try that
that will tell you how many calories you should eat a day to stay the same weight (ie not gain or lose)
to lose one pound per week (which is the healthy rate) you need to subtract 500 calories from that daily calorie number - then eat up to that many calories per day .. this will ensure a one pound a week weight loss.
alternatively ...
if you use to log your meals and snacks and also your calorie outputs .. you can make sure that there is a 500 deficit between the calories you exercise out of your body and the calories you take in (ie you could eat 1500 calories and have burnt off 2000+ calories)
but make sure your calories dont go under 1200 as this will put the metabolism into starvation mode and weight loss will stop.
hope this is useful :)

Thank you so much Sophie.

My fat loss calories says 1618
My extreme fat loss carolies says 1089

I'm loving fitday.com!!! :D

Hi!
Welcome to the forum!
I would like to suggest a longer time to achieve your goal. For an healthy (and longlasting) weight loss, you should lose no more than 1,5 lbs per week. If you lose more than that, odds are that as soon as you start eating normally again you'll gain weight in no time. Plus, if you lose too much weight in too short a time, you damage your muscles, not your fat.

Good luck with your weight loss and remember that I'll be here if you'll need me!

Thanks for the advice. One thing that I did forget to mention was... I am working on changing my eating habits in general. So I won't have to worry about going to back to eating like I use to. I'm working on establishing eating habits that will last a lifetime.
I really don't plan on having soda but once a week if any, eliminating that alone has lots of benefits, weight loss and betters skin!
So I treat myself once a week in order not to binge eat when I do get a goodie ya know...

By the way I was just in Sicily 5 weeks ago:)

Sicily is actually the farthest (in italy) place from were I live but I've been there many times in the summer...the sea is just gorgeous...

i have never been to italy :(
i intend to go sometime soon... when i have enough money :) i love travelling
1600 cals sounds good to me aisha .. thats the same as me .. except i average my weeks calories out because somedays when i go over 1600 i used to feel really bad but then when i averaged my weeks worth out it came to the same amount as if i had had 1600 everyday due to some of my days having taken in less.
if that makes sense.
anyways good luck with your journey here

I'm so happy today for a number of reasons. The first reason is b/c I didn't go over my suggested calorie intake yesterday. Okay I think I got this right....

1618(how many calories I can eat per day, I work out 2x daily)-1147 (what I actually ate yesterday)=471 left over that I could have used :)

Yesterday was my treat day, I alternate Wed. and Sat. as treat days while I'm on the ship. Wednesdays is hamburger/fries day and Saturdays is pizza/wing days. So yesterday I had 2 slices of pizza and 2 chicken wings as treats.

I was tempted to drink a coke yesterday but I didn't and that took so much for me not to drink it. So I drank 2 bottles of waters since I was so tempted, lol....

Today I had a mock physical fitness test. We had 3 choices, use the eliptical, bike, or the treadmill. I chose the treadmill b/c it is indeed the hardest. The eliptical and bike determine your run time based on calories, which makes it more challenging. Well I put it on level 15 b/c I only had 12 min to be on it. I burned 170 calories... Once they put it into the calculator (the calculator is based on weight, age, and calorie intake) it determined I ran my mile 1/2 in 15 minutes, I STILL HAD 30 SECONDS TO SPARE!!! Last time I actually ran it, I did it in 17 min, so I chopped of 3 minutes doing it the hard way:)

We are having a cookout on the ship today and I will more than likely have 1 hotdog w/ lite mustard and some salad and a fruit!!

Well that's all for today!!:D

Hi Aisha,

dieting on a ship must bring it's own challenges - good luck with your weight loss. You sound pretty determined, and I can sympathise with the emotional side of eating, as I have been eating emotionally since as far back as I can remember, and it is one thing I am determined to break out of - it's just as important to me as losing the weight.

My advice is to take it one day at a time, record your achievements (you will need to be reminded sometimes of the great things that you CAN do) and keep that great focus that you have.

Dieting on the ship is the worst!!! B/c the food can be pretty crappy you are almost pushed to go to the store or vending to get snacks. Luckily my friend is one of the cooks and can provide me w/ the healthy stuff.

High 5 for gym rats. It's nice to know that I'm not the only person in a relationship with GYM, LOL.

Howdy Aisia,
Welcome and goodluck to ya! You sound like you
have a good plan and goals to follow.Have a nice day Tammy
