Advice

Hi guys,
I'm a 16 year old girl,I'm 177cm high and I weight 80 kg.I pretty much hate myself like this and I want to change that. I want to lose like 10 kg of fat and gain some muscle.Because of that I got a diet plan made and now I'm thinking about the exercises. The past 2/3 years I haven't done anything fitness related and I'm afraid and ashamed to go to a gym ( I know that that is stupid ..) and so my mum I decided to buy some equipment for home, but I'm not really sure what would be best.I read at some sites that the best ways to lose weight are the treadmill and the elliptical and some say that the elliptical is better if the person using it hasn't run often and because of the pressure put on the joints when using the treadmill, I hope someone can give me advice on which to choose and also what weights should i get and which are the best exercises to do and please tell me if I'm missing something that I should do ?

If your main goal is to lose weight and get toned i think that a home based workout program might be the way to go, i recommend Insanity(no equipment needed) it is a difficult (60 days) program to complete but it's absolutely worth it u just have to get throw the first week and you will be golden.
Regarding your treadmill or the elliptical dilemma(my first choice will be to run outside) i will go with the treadmill.
But what ever workout style u decide to go with the most important thing to have is a clean healthy diet and make sure that you consume less calories than you burn.

As an Exercise Physiologist I do not recommend conventional approaches to "weight loss" involving long-duration aerobic exercise. Specifically, I never recommend continual use of either a treadmill or elliptical due to the manner in which they facilitate the development of improper movement patterns and postural carriage. The first thing I would do is have a Certified Metabolic Typing Advisor put a nutrition program together for you (there is no such thing as a general "weight loss" type of diet, your nutrition program needs to be individualized for you). Secondly, I would recommend employing a competent Personal Trainer who will be able to ease you into to a gentle resistance training program as your body adjusts to your new diet and moves toward a state of equilibrium. I'm sorry I can't provide a specific exercise program for you as I can't individualize one for you over a forum but if you can afford the above recommendations they would be very beneficial in ensuring that you lose the excess weight that your body is holding onto in a natural and healthy manner.

Mix up your routine so you don't get bored. I was a severely overweight child and the weight kept coming in throughout college. Good for you for wanting to get on top of it now.

To lose the weight, (you can read my full journey here ) I just started eating better (more veggies, more fruits and less carbs) and working out. I did some tae-bo, some walking, and went to the gym to use the treadmill and elliptical. I built up to P90X and Insanity. I think they are great programs, but I also think you should have some level of fitness before you jump into them, or at least be okay with not finishing the workout to start with. I love Leslie Sansome Walk Away the Pounds because I can do it from my home on a rainy day.

Good luck! You can do this!
