I was previously starving myself for a while, and lost 17 pounds. I am now down to 103lbs, and I am having trouble eating without gaining weight. I know starvation wasn't the best way to lose weight, but now that i have done that, how can I start eating more, and not gain weight. I don't know what I should eat or how much. I really need to get my metabolism going again. any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I am 15, if that helps at all.

You get your metabolism going again by eating... and if you gain a couple of pounds - you gain a couple of pounds... (throw out t he scale -=it's not good for you) Now is the time for you to develop healthy and sane eating and exercise habits...

Talk to your parents about what you've done to yourself... and spend some time reading the stickied threads around the forum.

Who cares?

If you want to fix yourself now so you can intelligently manage your weight and physique for the long haul, you'll deal with temporary negativity associated with repairing your metabolism.

If you can't think in those terms, you are not mature enough to be toying with dieting.

What you're gaining isn't fat, but increased water weight / food "in transit" as you return to a more-reasonable diet. Gradually increasing your carb intake (so getting a larger percentage of your calories from fats and proteins) is probably your best bet for keeping the scale from jumping up too fast, but you're still going to see an increase. It's not fat, your metabolism is not broken, it doesn't mean anything, and there's nothing you can do about it.

(You can also expect to see meaningless water weight fluctuation from hormonal changes throughout a month, from eating salty foods in the evening, from getting more or less sleep, from getting more or less exercise, from drinking more or less water, etc. Don't let it get you down.)

Increase your calories slowly. Just say you are currently eating 800 calories per day, tomorrow increase it to 900 calories, then keep going until you get up to 1800 calories.

You WILL gain weight, but probably not fat. What you will gain is all the water weight you lost (im sure some of that 17lbs was water weight, glycogen etc). So you won't LOOK any bigger.

Thats why you should just chuck out the scales, they dont measure anything but weight, and SOOOOOOOO many things can affect your weight and you STILL look the same.

If you are still worried about gaining weight you could go for a 30-60 minute walk every day? Go for a jog in the morning? You should really get exercise every day to maintain a healthy weight.

I saw some great advice here. I just thought I might add that you may want to think about some vitamin suppliments for a bit while you get your body re-adjusted...especially with the barely eating. After I went for a year going back and forth between not eating at all and severe calorie restriction my doctor recommended I take a daily vitamin, b-complex and iron because I was anemic. You probably want to check with your doctor and parents though before taking anything other than a multivitamin.
