Advice for Fiance

My fiance and I have a daughter and she has recently started complaining that she is gaining weight (trust me I didn't say a thing about it :))....but anyways she has a very small diet so I know the issue isn't calorie intake it's that she doesn't do any activities. I have been doing weight training for 15 years and martial arts for 3, but with her schedule she doesn't have time for as much as I do. I was going to sign her up to a gym near where she works so she can stop by it on her way home each night. She will only have 30 minutes for excercise, and I was thinking high intensity, fast paced, high rep, low weight weight training would be the best for her since she says doing ellipticals doesn't seem to push her that hard and treadmills hurt her knees. Does anyone have any suggestions and possible links to workouts that could fit her schedule? She has maybe 20-30 min a night on weeknights and one hour on Sat & Sun.

Thanks.

Circuit Training

Circuit style training is probably the most effective route for her to go. See if the gym she joins has personal training. Many times a membership includes a free personal training session where she can be shown an effective circuit workout. If that is not available then help her to design one. Typically a circuit consists of 5-8 exercises in succession without rest. As a trainer, when I design circuit workouts, I make sure to include an equal amount of lower body and upper body movements. With upper body movements, I like to make sure that both pulling and pushing movements are taking place to help with proper balance of the muscles.
