add cardio to current program?

I go to the gym about 4-5 times a week. Roughly, the week looks like this:

Monday: Upper body (short repetitions and heavy weights)
Tuesday: Nothing
Wednesday: Upper body (longer repetitions, lighter weights)
Thursday: Lower body
Friday: Nothing
Saturday: Upper body
Sunday: Nothing

Now, lately i've decided to start running during the weekdays i don't train on the gym, preferably the day not before or after lower body workout. My aim is simply to improve my health and condition before the army in july. Would you suggest i keep on running like 1-3 times a week, or would it be too much? (note: the running is kind of light and short, around 30min). Would it interfere with my gym workout? Will it improve the results?

any comments welcome

Thanks

I don't see why not. I just finished training a girl for the Air Force test and running was an integral part of it. As long as you're not looking to bulk up, keep running. Actually, I don't know why you're training the upper body three times a week. Two would probably suffice. If you can train the upper body three times a week you're probably over or under training in that area.
