Adam's not so usual JOURNAL!!!

Diaries are for women :p (just kidding, hehe...oh god, i am such a sexist pig)

But I decided to start one. I have a hard time writing thoughts on paper, but I figured why not, I'll give it a shot. I dont' know how it would actually help, but many people has said it has helped them. Also, this is meant to keep track of my progress, and maybe you will get to know more about me as a person.

I'll do a formal introduction of myself later, but let me give you some current stats.

Currently 20 years old, my starting weight was 276. When I joined the forums, i was 248, and I weigh myself this morning ago, and I was 5 lbs down. Also my BMR went down from 2325.94 to 2288.56.

I've been working out hard, 7 days a week of cardio, since the end of January and I haven't felt any discomfort, or fatigue til yesterday. Yesterday, I only got 7 hours of sleep (i thrive on 8.5) and I had classes all day (8 in the morning til 7 at nite). I didn't get time to eat, since I had a paper and a presentation to eat, so I grabbed a granaola and a cereal bar. I hate one for lunch...i ate a dry salad at the cafeteria for lunch (yeah, i'm hard core ladies, no dressing  ) and I had the granola bar in the evening, aroond 5.

Around after lunch time, I started to get this offer headache, which insisted it wouldn't go away. And it lasted me all the way til the nite. After my last class, I headed to the gym, where i forced to do a light workout, very light. I only did 30 min of cardio at very low intensity, because I wasn't feeling well. I went home, and ate a lot of food (well...i ate dinner, an apple...and a bowl of cereal :( ), and took some tylenol, which relieved the headache, and went to bed.

Normally, I would have had time to pack my lunch and everything, but I was so busy, and it shows (and my lack of sleep didn't help) But anyways, I feel a lot better today (and no school today, so that helps) so i'm always ready to kick it.

thats it for now...til later

Hi Adam,
Congratulations on the weight loss so far and good for you for dabbling into the ladies world of diaries!

:p

Seriously, I have found it a good way to sometimes get my thoughts together and kind of focus on this weightloss journey.

It's not so much as a diary, as it is, my corner on the WLF where I can go on and on and on...

Oh, I'm doing it in your diary - sorry ;)

Oooh adam has a di-a-ree adam has a di-a-ree - he's such a girl :D

heh heh - you can call it a journal if that makes it sound less frou-frou-y :)

we're ok with that :)

long as you don't dot your i's with hearts it's all good :D

M2M's right - it's also a good record of where you started as well... and gives youo a nice history of your journey...

hey Adam - im a newb as well. :D
Maybe you should jot down the amount of calories you're taking in and burning too. Its good not to go under your needs. If you are working out 7 days a week your needs go up too. Might be hunger a headache!
Grats on working out and making all of that progress!
I gotta get myself to do that!

Hi, Adam, and welcome to WLF.

Mal's got it right -- this is a journal. Diaries are for the ladies. :D

I hope you take the time to read through Steve's journal ("Journey, not a Destination"). There's plenty of good info, especially about exercise routines, caloric energy balance, and especially managing fatigue.

I started at about the same weight as you -- 270. At first I was convinced I had to exercise hard every day. Then I started understanding that could be counter productive. I now plan in rest days and even rest weeks every 10 weeks or so.

You need to give your body a chance to recover.

Thank you all for the kind words.

Tomo: I'm only 20 years old. My body can take the abuse, I figure, if i can do it, I will (because you aren't in your 20's forever :p). Keep in mind, i only do weight lifting 4 days a week, i give my muscles a chance to recover.

So, anyways, yesterday was a good day. I ate healthy, and it was my first date with my special someone which went awesome :). We had a healthy lunch (a chicken roll...whole wheat bread and white chicken), and we ended up sharing one. I ate well for the whole day, nothing out of the usual. (i don't believe counting calories, just eat in moderation)

I also did about 2 hours at the gym, mostly cardio. 1.25 hours on the eliptical machine, 15 min on the rower and 15 min on the threadmill. I also did some streaching. I did so much because I was ready to kick it (and since i slacked off the other day).

So today have class all day, but in between going to meet up with some friends to play tennis. And I managed to pack my self a health lunch: sliced apples, some sun chips, a whole week bagel with reduced fat cream cheese, some crackers (not the whole wheat kinds, but i packed like 8 crackers, which is like 100 calories) with ham, and a cheese stick. So, I'm set for the whole day (and hopefully can avoid any hunger headaches like i suffered tuesday).

And oh jeez, one more thing. I woke up early in the morning (645) and i couldn't sleep. So i decided to go on a walk, and when i came back, my neighbor waved to me ans asked me how much weight i lost. I felt a little embarassed and told him i wasn't keeping track, and he said to keep at it, that i was losing the weight. I felt happy and a little anxious at the same time.

I'm more motivated then ever and loving life!!!! :)

Thank you for asking. I typically do Mondays and Thursdays for lower body, and Tuesdays and Fridays for upper body.

I've been using a lot of the machines for my exercises, but I'm slowly trying to progress to the free weights. And omg, I was such a newb using the free weights, I had no idea what I was doing, bad form, posture, everything, but I'm slowly learning and building up. I have learned, its now how much you can lift, but its how you lift is the most important.

I am currently in the process of working on a work out for upper (chest, arms, shoulders, upper back) and lower body(gluts, legs, lower back). I've been reading some of your posts in the exercise section, and it has been really helpful.

Of course, I want to go from biggest muscles to smallest (Gluts ---> Calves, Pecs ---> Biceps), so i'm not such a novice (i had weight lifting in school).

I don't keep track of weights, unfortantely (and i'm very forgetful). But I do a warm up set (very light weight) and then the real thing. Typically, right now, i'm only doing 3 real sets, but i'm still reading through your posts and working on a routine. If I see that its not quite so difficult, i do 12. If it feels difficult, I do 8. and in between 10.

As I said, i'm still working on a routine, but as soon as i get it down, i'll post it. Also, i forgot to add, i do abs every other day.

So far, I've been really good, been keeping up the exercise and intensity, and gonna be out of the 240's soon =D (230's, here i come!!!).

Nothing to really report about, i've been feeling ok, but needs to keep a constant effort to keep my room organized. Its not that messy, some things are out of place...and disorganization make hinder my results.

This is a life style change, and i'm sticking to it.

Today I ate a bowl of cereal when i woke up, a ham sandwich (white bread :(), some grapes, rice + beans, chicken for lunch, and a fun size snickers bar (just 1)!!! (i'm guessing about 1300-1400 calories so far)

For dinner, i'm probably going to eat something really small, probably some fruit, and then thats it. I was talking to my friend and she said I need to eat more fruit, so thats what i've been doing!!!!!!

oh god, my journal is so booooring

So yesterday, before i ate dinnner, i went out for a jog. Well, I was planning to, but, from the past couple days of my upper body work out, my chest was hurting me, and the constant up and forth motion putting a lot of strain on my pec muscles, so long story short, i ended up walking instead.

It was a beautiful night though, and I love walking/jogging at nite, typically at like 10/1030pm. My mom calls me a wierdo, but its so peaceful and smooth. You get a fresh breeze and see the stars. And it gives you time to think about things. You see, my nightly running/walks is a chance of meditation. With my ipod blasting, i think about life, school, future occupations, family, myself 20 years from now, my paper do tomorrow which I haven't started on yet! (which I am typing right now...just taking a break :p)...you name it, i've probably thought about it.

After walking back, I ate some grapes and went to sleep around 11. Woke up about 8 and had a bowl of cereal with 1% milk. about 11, i had some grapes again...and for lunch...i had a little break in my diet, ate some chinise food with my mother (i would say, about 1000 calories), but it was so damn good.

Tonite I was planning to hit the gym again again after my microecomics class, and, if it wasn't too cold tonite, to go out for another jog. I am probably gonna eat a banana at around 530 and when i get home, something small, maybe some baked ham plain (no bread) or more fruit. I was talking to a really close friend, and she told me to eat as much fruit as possible, it makes your blood sweet ;)

M2M: Thanks for checking up on me :)

So yesterday, I ate:

Morning: bowl of cereal.
Mid-morning: granola bar
Lunch: rice + beans and chicken
Mid-afternoon: Small sandwich with ham
Afternoon: Apple Slices
Dinner: 2 bowls of cereal

I also did about 45 min of weight lifting, and about an hour of cardio.

I didn't eat that much vegetable today :( (there were some vegetable in the rice, but i need to make a constant effort).

Also, I didn't get to go on my nightly run/jog. School is going great, and i typed up all of my stuff due in my humanities folder....so all the typing is done for this semester. all the papers turned in. just 2 more weeks and finals.

Last nite, iI bought some fish oil pills and some vitamins. I figure, since i'm not eating as much, i should make sure to stay healthy, and everything is all right.

So this morning, being sick and tired of cereal, I had a banana and a apple cinamon grain bar with water :). I can't wait to start off the day, my off day, no school :), and cardio day!
(and you know, i don't like this format, i will probably go back to my long wordy format :p)..

You are doing great mate, god you have lost 30lbs already and you deff have determination. I have enjoyed reading your diary, it helps me with what I want to achieve. Personally I prefer cycling but like you I also go into my own little zone whilst cycling....Keep it up mate !!

Hey Adam,

Good job on even starting a journal. I am a newb and I haven't yet. I vote for the long wordy format ...if it matters. If that is what you feel more comfortable with, you will be more yourself. Just my opinion of course.

Way to go on the weight loss so far. Keep up the good work!

KK

Adam, I think it's great you are noticing your weaknesses in your meals and working to improve them. This is what it's all about. Arming yourself with knowledge and making changes!! Way to go!

I'm sure you'll be in the 230's in no time.

Thank you so much for the support guys! I really appreciate it.

So, Wedn is a killer day for me, cuz its my off day (which should be good) but i'm stuck at home doing pretty much nothing (i did cook...and clean a bit....heh).

Around 11:00, i had a whole wheat sandwich with tuna. Shortly after, about 2, i had some grapes. At around 3:30, I had a chicken salad wrap (grilled chicken of course), and at 5:15, i ate some crackers with cheese. I just hope i'm not eating too much. Also been drinking a ton of water. Planning on hitting the gym at 7, do some HITT training, and then play some racquetball with my friend at 9 (til around 10). When I get home, probably a light dinner and sleep, so i ate around...1500ish calories....wish isn't too bad.

Wish me luck in HITT, i could only do about 3-4 intervals before I was out of breath tired. Heh

Adam, just attempting HIIT puts you WAY ahead of the average cardio bunny. In the past 3 months, I haven't seen more than 3 people in my whole gym even try it, and this is an LA Fitness, where hundreds of people come to work out every day.

It takes a while to work up to a dozen or so intervals. Just be patient.

Don't know how you play racquetball after HIIT, though -- that's pretty remarkable.

Tom,

Thanks for the kind words.

I'm planning to take a 30 min break before I play racqetball (get there at 7, workout til 830, and then raquetball at 9). And you are right...last time I did it, I had a bad cough for the rest of the day. And I did feel like crap...hopefully though, my body gets used to it.

Well, I considered your advice Tom...ended up not doing any HITT today. I did about 1 hour and a half of cardio, and about 45 min of raquet ball, what a work out.

Afterwards, I came home and had some light cereal for breakfast, I just wanted that milk and calcium in my diet. I am pretty happy what I ate today, 3 (if u want to count the apple cereal bar) servings of fruits, 1 serving of vegetable, 2 serving of meat, and about 4 servings of wheat, 2 servings of milk. I still need to up my vegetable take in, but it seems like soooo much food, but i'll find a way.

Tomorrow is another long day in class and gotta pack my stuff. I'll probably carry a banana, a granola bar, a chicken salad wrap and some apple slices. A Bowl of cereal again for breakfast, and when I get home, from the gym (lower body weight lifting/cardio), I want to do some combination of meat/vegetables. Therefore, I get the whole food pyramid in my diet. Maybe, I should consider buying some lowfat yogurt so I can add that extra dairy into it as well.

edit: wholy crap, I was researching..beans and peas are considered in the meat grp??

Well, I ended up eating what I said i wouldeat except I took some grapes instead of apple slices.

But, I did drink lots of water, which was good :) (i hate peeing, every second tough :( :( :()

I hit the gym after my last class, did about 30 min of weight lifting and about an hour and 15 min of cardio.

I came home...and my folks bought chinise food...so i piged out :(. Then went to sleep....i woke up, though, and weighed myself and 230's baby!!! B) So today, nothing is really planned, no classes or anything. Gonna meet up with some friends to play tennis..then hit the gym and do weight lifting and cardio.

(and those wondering why i have so much time on my hands, I quit my job, and i am now in between looking for jobs :p)
