Accountability for the Busy Mom

Having struggled for years with my weight, it's time to try something different. I've tried the different diets with mixed success, and invariably no long term results. The only thing that has been consistently lacking has been accountability. I do not say anything to anyone about trying to lose weight because I don't want them to look at me in two months and think "that's working well for you, huh?". If no one knows I'm trying, there are no expectations of results.

I am a full time working mother of a 4 year old with all of the responsibilities and commitments that come with it. It's very simple to use a busy day as an excuse to not work out and a picky eater husband and son as an excuse not to eat as healthy as I should. Physically, I am perfectly healthy but I'm not happy and confident in myself. I need to stop with the excuses, justification and plain laziness. So, here's the new plan.

Commitment Time: 3 months

Daily journal of some kind in this diary every day for 3 months. After 3 months, review weight loss to see if accountability is the answer.

Diet:

1200 - 1500 calories per day (or 38 weight watchers points per day). Not going to over think this, just watch what I eat and write it down.

Exercise:

Daily - Walking/Jogging intervals for 20 - 30 minutes per day. Working toward a 20 - 30 minute jog every day but I just can't do it yet. If it has to be done at 10 pm, then so be it.

Alternating Days - After the walk, exercise routine consisting of push-ups, crunches, lunges, squats, leg lifts, and other exercises I know how to do but need to look up the names of. Attempting a full body workout for a beginner. Workout will consist of a minimum of 10 reps per exercise (adjusting as necessary) for a minimum of 30 total minutes.

How's that journal coming? ;)

Once you have done some regular cardio for a few months, try something like tabata training. It only requires 4m of your time and is supposed to be equivalent of 30m (or something like that) of regular cardio. Great for someone limited on time (although, it's pretty strenuous - I'm in decent shape and was only able to do 6 intervals the first time without extending my break).

Sounds like you are well on your way, though. Stick with it and I look forward to seeing great results.
