abear i have a question!

Hey, i was just noticing that on a lot of posts about bulking up you tell people not to do direct arm work. Now i've been working out for almost 3 months and i have added about half an inch to my arms. I was just wondering what's your reason for saying not to do direct arm work. My arms are now 12", and i've always done direct arm work in addition to my compound exercises. Do you think i still shouldn't do direct arm exercises, or should i? I'm asking because i want to get the best results possible, so yeah im' just wondering. Thanks!
Oh yeah i was gonna send you this in a PM but it says your inbox is full :p

boy i'm getting to this in a timely manner :(

my opinion is that training arms is waste of time and effort for the thin, underweight person. i base this opinion on my own experiences plus those i've witnessed over the years. personally, i got my arms from 12" to 15" years ago without one single direct arm movement.

my opinion is that ppl like us need to devote their energy to the exericises that hit the most amount of muscle in the least amount of time. thats the big movements: squats, deadlifts, presses, rows, chins, dips, etc. guys like us usually cannot lift a huge amount of weight in the beginning. so we set goals. whatever our starting bodyweight was, thats what we strive to work up to for the squat, deadlift, press and row.

simple, basic, honest effort and work. personally, i find it more fun than "frankenstein" training ;)

Oh ok. that makes sense. So far I've noticed some gains in my triceps, but not really in my biceps. I do direct arm work for both of them. I think i'll try to go for a while with just the big basic movements. Thanks a lot. Don't worry about how long it took you to reply to this, you already answered my question in a PM anyway. :)
