Abdominoplasty (the tummy tuck). I need some info. :)

I just turned 18, and my biggest gift to myself was losing that last pound.

I finished losing weight a while ago, but I don't think I'm at the end of my journey yet.

After losing the weight, I noticed a big tummy pudge that just wouldn't go away.

I've had it for a while now, and I had always assumed that it was fat that would eventually come off.

I was wrong. After looking at pictures, I realized that the "pudge" I have on my stomach is actually loose skin.

So, I'm just curious. What do I need to know about getting a tummy tuck?

I'm 18, I've never had any children, and I do have health insurance.

What are some examples of costs?

Is it really worth it?

How is the recovery?

Will it affect me if I choose to have children someday?

At your age, your body is still changing and developing... Unless you finished losing weight when you were 14... there's no way you've given your body time for the skin to return to where you want it to be.

Costs can vary depending on region and doctors.... Make 3 appointments with 3 different board certified plastic surgeons... and see what they have to say.. Though - a tummy tuck is rarely medically necessary so it probably will not be covered by insurance. The consult may be covered.

Tummy tucks are not covered by insurances as it is a cosmetic procedure; the costs can vary from 10-14,000$ depeding on the location and the time it would take to do your surgery. Tummy tucks are generally not advised if you haven't had children yet.

The surgeon I spoke to said that it is best to wait until you are done with the children bit before you go for something like this; i.e. if you plan to have kids some day.

Hey, I read on another post that it can take YEARS before the skin returns to 'normal', although Im assuming this varies significantly between people..
Age is definiately on your side, I wouldnt rush into it in your position

I really had no idea that the excess skin could eventually tighten up on its own.
