Antibiotics generally help if its infected, if its viral theres nothing they can do. Best way to find out which is it, go to the Dr :)

Yes, my throat is infected & visited a doctor too. But nothing seem to be helping. I badly need some antibiotics.

Have you tried Z-Pak? I get strep throat, like clockwork, twice a year. And, the only medicine that works for me is Z-Pak. I'm allergic to penicillin, so I can't take that (or else it would make me sick), and none of the other medications I have taken have ever done a thing to help my strep throat.

All the doctors I go to don't listen to me though, so they end up pumping me full of "their" medication, which doesn't do a God damned thing. Then, after a week of nothing happening, they finaaaaally give in and give me the Z-Pak. So, you might want to ask for it. It's a generic medicine, but it always works for me. I'm not guaranteeing that it will work for you - I'm just sayin'.

I agree with chefchitown that the doctors don't listen to what our experiences tell us. They just keep prescribing their medicines. I have tried the antibiotic amoxicillin which helped me in my condition. You can try that.

Doctor said antibiotics wouldn't help me for this (2 weeks ago).
I found the antiseptic throat lozenges (strepsils) really helpful, also gargel listerine (or salt water is good too), and drank lemon and ginger tea (tea bags) with some honey. Brush your teeth quite often too to help kill the bacteria.

Hop you feel better soon :)

So, antibiotics work if it is a bacterial infection, and you shouldn't ask a board :) you should ask a doctor. The thing is. If you get say.. a weak or wrong antibiotic tretment, then you'll just increase resistance to that particular antibiotic which is bad for the entire world, and you. But, and efficient antibiotic treatment kills of bacterial infections.

If it is a virus, then antibiotic won't do a thing, except expose you to antibiotics which is in and on itself not very healthy.

So, go see doctor, and if doctor says no antibiotics, just make sure you get enough water and protein to keep your blood viscosity high and your immune system healthy, and get plenty of rest. And don't use ibuprofen or such to knock down the fewer unless you _really_ have to. Since the reason we get fewer is to make a whole host of chemical proceses in the body move faster, increase viscosity and other things which makes your immune system work faster.

Let me just stress this again, unless you are infected with a bacterial infection that we have a known antibiotic against, then there is no point in taking antibiotics, it will, in fact, just mess with your intestines and all the goodguy(tm) germs down there.

Nothing seemed to be working...Not at all. I am as mean as ever, and I was really getting frustrated. I tried antibiotic (link removed) & like a miracle it worked for me. This antibiotic had a huge impact on my pain & the pain is reduced very much. Now I can enjoy this Christmas season with my family & friends.
Thank you very much member 'jgreen48'. Your suggestion was quite helpful during the problem situation.

Thanks to all members who replied me regarding the problem!! God Bless.

It was my pleasure. The medication I recommended has worked for me in the past so I felt like sharing it. Good to hear that it worked for you as well. Thanks again for your appreciation
