A new Adventure

Hi everyone!

I had a birthday a few weeks back, it was my 28th. Things for me have gone pretty well since college and such. I have a great job in a field I enjoy. I have some good friends and a dog who expresses unconditional love ha-ha. Anyway it was on my birthday that I had what I call a stroke of depression. I looked at myself in the mirror and what I saw really hurt. I was so big the biggest I have ever been. Throughout my life I was always the big guy. In jr. high I was 6'4 which towered over most. Going through HS I reached 6'7". At that time I was weighing in at 220ish. Well on my recent birthday I was weighing in at 320!! 100pounds..........that's such a daunting number.

It was then and there that I decided to try to help myself. I started attempting to run, attempting being the key word, I found myself continually having to run in short spurts and walk the other parts. I live on a hill in Seattle so I warm up by climbing to the top and on the plateau of it I run. Its going on the 3rd week of running now and with it a change in diet. Mostly attempting to eat less really but swearing out junk food. I weighed myself this morning and progress is being made im done to 311. But in the grand scheme of things that is a just a minor step. I want to be thin and fit and to do so I think I must get to 200 or less.

Anyway I don't have much support in my life for this task, the friends I have don't really think ill stick to this or don't really care, sounds harsh but hey we all have our own issues. So I thought I would turn to a forum and this one seemed like a good spot. So far I have been upbeat about this but with my goal being so much weight its going to be hard to remain positive for the whole thing and that’s where I think ill need help.

I do have a few questions, I read that water is vital to weight loss so I try to drink a lot of it. 3 liters while at work ad at least 1-2 more when I get home. Is this enough? Secondly for any runners out there I'm getting better able to run longer and link more of these old breaks into solid runs but what I am finding recently is that I don't have to stop do to being tired but rather to side cramps which I cannot for the life of me figure out why I am getting them. Any advice as to how to remedy them? Perhaps its my breathing while running I really don't know. Anyway long wall of text so for those of you who read it all thanks =).

Welcome!! :)

Im not a runner, But I can tell you...."You are at the Perfect place!"
Welcome aboard.

My starting weight was 314 pounds ..now I am down to 293 ... I consider that a big loss for me. I was put on many medications that made me gain weight and the pounds are hard to come off when you gain them that way...

but you are in the right place.... People here are very supportive.. its a great place to chill and write in other diaries.... its nice to talk with people who have the same or similar problems you may have...

Enjoy your time here...
best wishes
and I would start a diary if I were you!

always

Hey you,

first off welcome to the WLF and congrats on taking care of yourself. :) I give you credit being able to run at that weight. At my current weight, my knee gives me hell after 3 miles. (softball injury) Have you figured out your calories allotted, exercise "routine," and meal plans? If you have questions, just ask... there are so many people out there willing to help. It's amazing really. If you have the time, create a diary. It will allow others to get to know you. Wishing you all the best and congrats with the pounds lost so far!

Keep on trucking with the running. I was a big runner before my pregnancy but could barely go for 25 seconds afterwards. I am now capable of running 3-4 miles at a time now and I started a little less than a year ago. I hope to be back to my old self by spring. You have to start by walking/jogging. Each time you go, try to run just a little longer/further. You will eventually find that it gets easier, I promise. Try going to fitday.com to log your food intake. This will help you keep up with your calories, fat, etc.

Good Luck!

Amy
