A myth that I really want to get cleared up on

All my life...at least for the most part of my life...people have told me that high reps/low weight equals "toned" muscles. And women should not lift weights cause they'll "bulk up". I know this is not true because we don't have the hormones men have. But it makes me wonder...how to "bulky women" get the way they are? Is there something they are doing that dramatically increases their muscle size?

I am starting a workout plan and I want to know what are things I should avoid? Yes...my goal is to get "leaner" (if that even is possible...) cause prom season is edging closer -.- But I am utterly lost as to how to approach to making my workout plan...

Any advice please?

Basic premise of body building:

Low weights, high reps and sets, targeting THE SAME MUSCLE GROUP. Additionally, substantial protein and water must be consumed to repair the essentially broken muscles. And never do the same muscle group more than once in a week.

Hope that helped.

Women don't get real bulky without the supplement of drugs.

Unless they have something whacky going on hormonally.

In either case, used long enough and they also start looking like a man.

I highly doubt you've seen many bulky women in your life.

this is very true yet very scary when a woman has something going on hormonally!
