A little too curvy (maybe in a good way?).

Its time to lose the curves -

My friends say "..but you're so curvy!" and "you look good!" and "I wish I had your shape"... I'm 5'8" and I currently weigh 187lbs. Thats overweight, right? I'd say it is and I'm sure all of you in this forum would agree with me. Why don't my friends agree?

Apple vs. Pear, I say. My best friend is what has been called the "apple" shape. I'm what they call the "pear". Even though I'm roughly 35lbs overweight, I have a 30" waistline but my hips measure in at 45". For a few years, I've been letting my friends tell me that I look great and they wanted my shape. The truth is that I hate the curves because the clothes don't fit. I can buy an extra large shirt in the children's section of target but I can't buy a pair of jeans at target simply because my waist to hip ratio is too large. If the pants are large enough to fit my thighs and hips, there's enough space at the waist for me to put my arms in the pants too!

The only logical solution I see is weight loss. So the goal is to drop down to 155. I've selected a combination of low-calorie diet with exercise, including plenty of vitamins and fiber. Does anyone have any recommendations for reducing the physical size of the hip and thigh region?

I'd really appreciate any input anyone could give me.

Thanks for being here.

Bike riding!
lol
Welcome to the boards.

You should start a diary when you are ready!
But I bike ride between 5-6 miles during the week and anywhere from 15-23 miles on the weekend. I want to go swimming this upcoming weekend. I am always bike riding, but we will see what my bf goes with...but my legs are getting much smaller, now I just have to work on my butt and stomach..

anyway ttylater
always

thanks natalie jo!

I started a diary today called "No Pain, No Loss?". It feels fitting.
I'll try the bike riding as soon as I get a bike (thats supposed to happen around the end of this summer). Until then, I'll be walking my butt off... hopefully.

thanks again

Sunny

5'8" and 187 isn't bad at all, in my opinion. That could be due to the fact that I don't really like skinny girls. My wife's curvey and I think it's sexy. I like my women kind of thick. :)

I really don't like the girls who are built like 12 year old boys.

Awww thanks.
I get hit on from time to time for the curves.. The truth is I want to lose weight so I can find clothes that fit and feel more comfy in my own skin. I won't wear shorts in public (I don't like my legs at all) and I'd like to get to a point where I feel okay showing a little skin.

The thought of putting on a swimsuit makes me nervous.. and a bikini horrifies me.

I really want to aim for 155 and see how I feel at that point. I don't think I want to go beyond that though. My mother and I are exactly the same shape and about the same size. I saw what she looked like when she was at a "healthy weight" (140lbs) and she looked so skinny... it didn't look healthy at all. She agrees.

I'll miss my chest.... It was nice while it lasted. Lol!

Join the club I dont like my legs either, although you're probably just as silly as me as really they're fine.

I guess start losing weight slowly (if you're saying you are only curvy in the right places, you might want to be careful to avoid stretch marks if you lose weight from there mostly).

My flatmate is very curvy - 26 inch waist with "homegrown" F cup boobs and a big bum/big hips. She wanted to get into shape and look better in a bikini, and all she had to do really was to tone up and lose a bit of weight (but not too much as she's got one of these very georgous womanly figures that need curves). It didn't take that long and she looks fabulous. I'm sure all you have to do is shed a bit of excess weight and tone up a bit and you'll look even more fab and find it easier to fit into clothing - she buys jeans that are low fitting rather than jeans that sit on the waist, as they'd be way too loose. She also wears jeans that have a bit of stretch, and she usually has to wear a belt anyway. Skirts are great too - even though you dont like your legs, a right above or under the knee skirt that flares out slighly will flater your legs, especially with shoes that have a chunky heel (thin straps/stilletos are hard to pull off I find unless you have slender ankles, which I wish I had...).

We both do a good all body weight workout and lift as much as we can (not much at the start lol we sucked but we did sweat a lot and still do haha) and a decent high intensity cardio routine (takes less time too).

Hmm... I already have stretch marks and I've had those for a long time. Seems like when I was young, I ended up with hips and a chest overnight and the stretch marks came with the package. Will they get worse as I lose weight? I'm losing weight incredibly slowly at least.. Mostly because of lack of diligence over exercise and eating.

I'm not nearly as curvy as your flatmate. I'm much more pear-shaped than she is. At my heaviest (about 215lbs), I boasted a 36D chest and after losing a little weight it subsided quickly to a 34C (where I still am at 187lbs). I didn't pay much attention to what came off my lower half since I was more distraught over losing what I felt was a very proportional looking chest. Oh well.

Has anyone used Palmer's Stretch Mark cream? I'll start a thread on that one.
