A good idea? ...

Hey,
I'm new here :)

I just started on a new diet yesterday, it's a bit extreme compared to my old diet and I'm currently only eating soup and fruit and drinking lots of water and diet coke when I need something that tastes alright.

I already go to the gym four an hour 5/6 days a week and I'm quite active (i'm a university student) but still overweight. I was wondering if anyone with a bit more experience than me could tell me if its a feesible diet.. Providing I stick to it? :L
Thanks :)

Will you lose weight? Yes

will you likely keep it off? No.

Is it healthy? No.

Is it safe? hmm no.

Is it likely high in salt? Yup.

Should you do it? I'd say no but it is your choice.

Instead, why not aquire nutritional and portion knowledge? Instead of turning to what amounts to a liquid diet, Why not take the time to learn good food choices that will last a lifetime? Do you feel like you can eat this way forever? I doubt it so what happens when you aren't eating like this? Will you know how to make the right choices to keep from regaining the weight?

I'd say step back and take a better look at things.

I absolutely 100% agree with Jericho.

If you want to make a permanent change to your weight you need to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

Forget about the liquid diet and go back to the basics.

Although having soup can be more filling than just dry food, you're just as well off having two glasses of water before you eat. Even better doing that and making sure your meal has a good protein source in it, since protein tends to be more satiating (you'll stay full longer, not just tricked from the water) and you need it anyway.

If you're not counting calories, the 2 glasses of water + plenty of protein should at least help you cut back on the amount you feel hungry for. (Note: This doesn't help as much if you eat out of boredom or for comfort)

This diet will be very hard as unless your happy to eat like this for the rest of your life, you will not have altered your original eating patterns, not learnt portion control and it will become a battle to re-eat and do so in moderation.

You'd be very likely to put on all the weight once you begin to eat again as a result.

Also (if you are going to do this) count the calories- some soups are low in calories, having anything from 15kcals per 100mls and some are sky high- I saw one a few days ago with 120kcals per 100mls! Now if you were eating however much soup you wanted every day it could end up with you eating a fairly normal maintanance calorific intake each day.

soups are good but just be sure to monitor how much calories it has.

also don't just plan what to eat just to lose weight. get used to a healthy eating pattern. it will benefit you in the long run

If you're meaning home made soups then tuck in. So long as it doesn't start with 'Cream of........' then you're OK with soups.

There doesn't look to be anything inherantly wrong with your posted diet except that you'll stop eating like that one day and the weight will go back on. 100% certain.

Grill some chicken breast and boil some peas and/or carrots to have after a bowl of soup and you'll be doing great.
