a few q's

Hi All,

I'm new here but I've been training for about two years. Problem is I have an injury that keeps recurring in my left shoulder. I know my form is good...I train with my hubby who is well experienced but I can't seem to prevent it. Any suggestions? Also though I am quite trim I have jodphurs/saddlebags (don't you just love genetics? and even with cardio and body builders these buggers just seem to refuse to budge. Again any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

Good suggestion kent. If a doctor clears you after xrays and maybe MRI....a GOOD physical therapist would be a great way to go. Just a consultation session or two should help plenty. Basic rule of thumb with women and shoulder impingements and injuries:

-You need to keep or gain good retraction. So most exercises you do should be in a pulling motion....not a push.
- Stretch only tight areas. If the muscle isn't tight....don't stretch it.
- Work on shoulder elevation, protraction, depression, and retraction....I know that's a mouthful. I've seen strength coaches like Mike Roberts and Eric Cressey....from t-nation.com demonstrate some of these movements. Too much verbage to give you in this reply.
- Never underestimate a good warm-up. A warmup is not just getting on a treadmill and getting a warm and cozy feeling (not even close) try googling "dynamic warm up" and "active isolated stretching"

Trainer ty - I think jumping in to an MRI is a bit extreme if you have not tryed, sports massage or acupunture.

I had a shoulder problem when I started, felt like pinching when doing incline bench and shoulder press. I had this for 3 years.

My mate fixed it forever with 2 massages and 2 weeks off training.

Thanks MK :D I've always wanted an excuse to try acupuncture or acupressure. Oh and I'm not totally sure but I think the injury is muscular...I doubt NHS would set me up for a MRI anyway. :p
