A Family Weight Loss Diary…

So I have come to the point in my life where I can’t put this off any longer, I need to lose this weight…

Ohhhh nooooo….
On June 3rd my husband and I joined the YMCA when we weighed in the first day I was shocked!! I had let myself get up to 253 lbs and my husband weighed in at 298lbs… We got off to a good start for a few weeks but then went on vacation and our weight loss plan went bye bye. So we are starting again on Monday July 27th, it would be today but I need a few days to prepare mentally and restock my fridge and pantry.

Yo mama’s fat…
I hate being a fat mom!! I have 3 kids who look up to me and I know I am not setting a good example for them. My daughter who is 9 is overweight. Man, I HATE saying that and to tell you the truth it physically hurts to say that out loud. We went school shopping last weekend and like always she has such a hard time finding clothes, boy do I know that feeling! I don’t want that for my daughter! I know she feels different from all the other girls at school and that makes me so sad.

Baby blues…
I want to have another baby so bad. Earlier this year we lost a baby due to miscarriage and I am still dealing with the grief. Aug. 21st will have been my due date, I am not looking forward to that day… But after the loss I made a promise to myself I would not get pregnant again until I lost the weight and I wanted to give myself till the end of the year lose as much as possible.

Our 06/09 starting stats/Never Again : )
My husband is 34, 6’1” and 298lbs. (Took before pics but no measurements yet)
I am 30, 5’9” and 253lbs.
Chest: 50”
Waist: 44”
Hips: 47”
Thighs: 27”
Biceps: 15”

The Action Plan…
Low carbs, low cal., no eating after 7pm and 128oz of water a day.
We have a treadmill at home so at least 2 mile of fast walking a day to start off with.
55 min. step cardio class 2 days a week till school starts and I have more time at the gym.

Questions…
I have no idea how many calories we should eat???? Is 1000 to 1500 to much or to little? Also do we do weights in combination to cardio or stick to cardio?

I am looking forward to this sharing this journey with all of you!

If you go to the place where the new people post their introductions (sorry can't remember the name of the page) Steve posted a long "rant" about dieting in general and in that rant he gives you an equation to figure out you caloric intake for weight loss. Also, if you google search BMR calculators that will give you a good idea of what you need to maintain you current weight and then subtract 500-1000 calories for weight loss results.

Welcome to the forum, I'm new also, just joined yesterday. We are the same age, the dreaded 30 (shivers). Good luck!

Hey girl! You should definitely check out the other "departments" on this website, especially the stickies! They are really helpful!

I DO think 1000 calories is way way way too low though, with that, your body will starve!

Good luck :)

I'll stop by again--keep posting!

Thanks guys! I had some time to check out a lot more postings and gathered some great info!! I am looking forward to incorporating it in to my plan. I will check back on Monday at let everyone know how the first day of our new plan went.

Ok, so we officially started on Sunday. I made a meal plan from the Biggest Loser cook book for every day this week. So far the food has been good, I feel a little hungry from time to time but hopefully that will pass as the days go on and my body adjust to this new way of life.

My husband and I signed up for a package at the Y, we get time with a trainer and a nutritionist, I had my first meeting with the trainer today and boy did she kick my but!! I am so out of shape 5 minutes in to the work out I was ready to fall to the ground. :ack2: I think she picked up on that and took it down a level for me. We did 30 munities today and I see her again on Friday. Right now my body hurt so badly! It hurts to sit, to get up, my legs, my arms it all just hurts! I know it’s just because it was my first time out doing this kind of work out so I just hope it gets better from here.

My goal for tomorrow is to do at least 30 munities on the treadmill, drink more water than I have been and to stick to my food plan.
