8 pounds in 4 weeks, 50 in one year

So first of all, I'd like to introduce myself. I'm Susanne and from Germany and I joined this forum today in the hope of finding some people who struggle with the same issues as I do and probably have better ideas for solutions than I do. I currently weigh in at 162 pounds which is not really the weight I want to have at 1,60 m. So I'm trying to get rid of 50 pounds until next summer which doesn't sound too hard but I have thyroid disfunction so I gain weight very easily. I've been having ups and downs for pretty much all my life and during the last to years I got to 120, 150, 124, 156, 125 and now 162 (my highest so far), so my personal goal is not only to lose weight but also to finally keep it off. If anyone has more tips how to stay at a lower weight for a longer period of time I would love to receive a comment or a message. I'm currently exercising for about 30-45 minutes a day + walking instead of driving whenever possible (I don't have my own car so that is quite often actually) and trying to stick to a 1500 calorie diet which is quite doable for me as long as I am at home but as soon as I go out I get strong cravings for fast food and things like that, my biggest problem is seeing food because then it gets really hard for me to resist.

Hi Susanne and welcome to the forum! Thyroid trouble does make it (quite a lot) harder to lose weight but it´s definitely not impossible. Ignoring the unhealthy stuff is mostly habit, in my experience. Once I manage to do it for a week or two I don´t actually crave junk anymore (and then I just have to avoid "treating" myself to something high-calorie because I´ve been so good...). Best of luck to you, you may find that keeping a diary here really helps get through the tough times.

Thanks a lot for your reply! I feel quite similar about junk food, the first few days are hard but then it gets easier but if I eat anything of that again once in a while I struggle with it for a week or so again but I also don't want to give up all the unhealthy foods at all because I'd really like a burger or so once in a while. I'm trying to find a way to eat it not often but without craving it again immediately after that.
Btw. sorry if my English isn't completely correct as it isn't my native language.

Don't worry about it; your English is fine! I live in Vienna, by the way :) I'm no weight loss expert, but what tends to work for me is substituting that McD burger/cheap pizza for a high-end or homemade one.

Hi Susanne & welcome to the forum. Making your own healthy version of a burger or pizza is an excellent idea. I don't ever feel like I'm missing out by not eating bought junk food. The more healthy food you eat, the more healthy food you want. Your tastes change. Well done on making the decision to become healthier. Your English is just fine & there is o need to worry about that at all. Cheers, Cate.
