Dear All,

I am weighing 120 KG, I am 27 and 6 feet 1 inches tall as of today and I have woken up from my slumber and working honestly with my weight loss.

I am getting married in June, by june first week i would like to reduce close 15 kgs. I wanted your tips and experience in making this happen. Previously I took about 6 months to reduce 22 kgs. I am very much aware of the fact that loosing 15 kg is not good for health. But I am desperate this time.

Please let me know how to proceed

my diet is as follow

1. herbalife - Formula 1 shake in the morning for break fast

2. 1 cup of green tea and a apple at 11.30 am

3. 2 chapathis and a side dish for lunch at 1.30 pm

4. fruit salad and green tea at 4.30 pm
5. Herbalife milk shake - formula 1 for dinner

I am including 6 liters of water every day at regular interval, i have joined a gym working on carido for 45 min and also rope jumping ( skipping) in the evening for 30 min.

I am able to see some progress already, lost two kgs in 3 days.

I wish you good luck - but have to say that shake systems that I tried didnt work for me. It is very difficult to eat in such an abnormal manner over a prolonged period. They also do nothing to teach us healthy eating habits - so I know a lot of people who have gone on to regain what they lost.

I also have concerns over whether they supply sufficient protein, fibre etc to keep people healthy. Our bodies need a whole load of things that we get from real food.

While it is great that you have lost 2kg in 3 days - I feel obliged to point out that it is perfectly normal to lose extra weight in the first week or two of any weight loss plan... This weight loss tends to be a surged loss of water weight since we often tend to reduce our sodium intake as we cut junk from our diet. We also may carry less food weight since we may be starting to bring in some level of portion control. Weight loss then tends to slow down.

I really do wish you luck though and hope that it works for you.

Also that you find someone on the forum who has chosen a similar path who may be able to comment better on honing your chosen plan.

If by any chance you run into problems - and find the lack of real meals too difficult - then there is lots of advice on losing weight by eating healthy proper meals and exercising... there is no need to give up entirely on your weight loss ambitions. I am not sure that you could lose 15kg by the first week of June using these methods though - but you might come close to it... Although some people manage to lose more - a rate of 1% per week is considered to be a healthy good rate of weight loss by someone working hard. That would give you a weight reduction of about 13 to 14kg.

Whatever weight you are - I hope that you have a lovely wedding.

Dear Omega,

thanks a lot for taking time and writing to me. I forgot to mention that I am consuming a lots of fruits in the form of apple, guava, pappaya etcs at regular interval. Infact even I am dead against using supplementary foods like shakes. About 2 years back, I worked very hard and lost 22kgs in a span of 1 year. but due to my bad eating habits and sedentary life style I regained all the weight.

Considering the lack of time for my wedding, I am forced do something like this.

Could you please tell me what is the realistic weight I can loose in a month if I work really hard. I am desperate to loose weight, most importantly loose the tummy for my wedding. As I am from India, you are required to remove your shirt and carry on with your wedding rituals :) :)

Looking forward for your advice and moral support

I am afraid that I do not know how much weight you can lose in a month on a Very Low Calorie Diet (a shakes style diet)... People that do go on these diets appear to lose weight incredibly quickly when they work!!! They often do well during the weight loss phase - if they can stick to it... Whether it is healthy - and whether they maintain the loss are two totally different questions...

I do know that I only managed to resolve my own problems by eating healthily and doing an incredible amount of exercise - so that is all that I can comment about (from my own experience)... I am certainly not an expert - but I did manage to lose 168 pounds (i.e. 76kg) in a project a few years ago... I am back because I have gained a bit over the past two very stressful years...

I maintained just fine until 2 years ago - then my husband had 5 operations in a year - then we had to relocate house 300 miles and move in with my parents who are in their 90s to help them... I think that anyone would find all that stressful...

I do know that quite a lot of people manage to lose about 1% per week by eating very healthily and working hard and doing a lot of exercise... I think that you would probably manage that if you work hard... Actual amounts vary as a very big person will lose quite a few pounds more while doing exactly the same thing as a smaller person...

If you think that there are about 4.5 weeks in a month that is about 4.5%... That would work out to about 5.4kg or 11.9 pounds...
