I joined this chat because I need to take action and loose weight. I think that the first step to loosing weight is admitting that you actually need to! So here it goes..

I need help to loose weight!!

whew....okay that wasn't so bad. Now to the hard part...changing my lifestyle. After some reflection, I have found that I am not an unhealthy eater. I don't eat red meat, I mainly stick to chicken and fish. I do not eat a lot of sweets or put salt on my food. I only drink water with an occasional beer here and there. I double up on veggies, and sometimes I eat fruit. I always eat breakfast.....

I think that I overeat healthy foods and that is what is hindering my weight loss. Is that at all possible?

When I was in high school i weighed 130lbs..but that was with 6 days of 3 hour swimming and running sessions. After I stopped that my weight has piled on and seems to have reached a plateau (thank god) at 170. In the past couple of years that has been my heaviest. I loose weight but in the end I always seem to get back to that point.

My fat is distributed everywhere. No body part has been left out, except maybe my earlobes, haha.

Overall I am healthy except for a condition called polycystic ovary syndrome which, the doctor has told me, hinders weight loss.

I work out for about an hour a day, everyday. I have found because of years of swimming I cannot run anymore without my knees killing me so I tend to use the elliptical if I want to do cardio (which doesnt happen that often). I use weights all the time.
SO. I guess what I am looking for is some motivation and encouragement. I will post pictures of what I look like currently soon.

any hints or tips on how to tone: butt, chest (including the hated side boob), arms, and abs would be appreciated!!

Thanks
Ari

I should add that the reason I want to loose the weight is because I am unhappy with the way I look. I do not feel sexy/beautiful. I have become very introverted and it is therefore ruining my social life.

I'm almost the same, 177 and I want to get to 140. I'm totally new to this and would feekl strange giving advice, but keep up the good work!

I think setting small goals is a good way to start...first focus on 5lbs...then 10lbs...then 10%, etc...and all the while, remember the reason(s) you want to lose weight.

Be forgiving. At times you might feel like you've messed up, but it's important that when you do, get right back on track. None of us can be 'perfect' all of the time.

Have realistic expectations. Plan.Plan.Plan....b/c if you fail to plan, you plan to fail.

When I was younger, I was heavier...size 14 at 24-25 y/o....I decided I wanted to lose weight....followed a healthy eating plan, started working out and within 3 months got down to a size 10 and was able to maintain that for a couple of years through exercise mostly. After 3 yrs, felt weight was creeping up so I joined Weight Watchers and within a few months was able to get down to a size 6 which I NEVER thought possible. All the while I continued to work out (cardio / ST - 4-5x/week)...and while it's been challenging at times to maintain within 5lbs...I have!

I was diagnosed with breast cancer 2 yrs ago...multiple surgeries/chemo, etc...couldn't workout as much, eating heavier foods and did gain 8lbs...but I've since gotten rid of them and feel good again in my 130something lbs body (btw...I'm 5'5").

I just wanted to share my story and maybe just encourage you to know that you CAN do it. You just have to start. Good luck.
