I started my plan to live healthier on February 9, 2012. My official starting weight was at 405 pounds. I didn't have a scale until Feb. 17 so I am using that as my unofficial start date. In 12 weeks, I have lost 53 pounds and I am now down to 352 pounds. I know I have a long road to get where I want to be but I am making progress. My goal is to get down to 190-200 pounds. My height is 6-0 (6 foot even) and I am 37 years old. I am just focusing on diet and exercise. I am now exercising a little over 2 hours a day consisting of lap swim for 40-45 minutes and walking for about 90 minutes 5-6 days a week. I am now able to walk at a pace at around 3.7 miles/hour on a flat surface. I had some problems with blisters but they are healing. There is a nice walking path near my house along a river that is one mile and I mainly use that or just walking around my neighborhood. For lap swim, I go to the local high school indoor pool where they have lap swim open to the public in the mornings. I am also trying to eat about 1300-1600 calories per day. I chart all of my food and exercise in an Excel file I created with estimated calories consumed and burned. I am also drinking about 80 fluid ounces of water daily. Here are some photos. I feel better already and like I have a lot more energy. I am making some progress on my weight loss goals. I just need to keep it up and stay on track and be patient. Here is a chart of my weekly progress. If I have a food craving, I try to drink water and eat something healthy like some oatmeal which is low in calories and filling or some fruit and vegetables.

13 weeks: 352 pounds - April 12, 2012

Update:

I have now lost 68 pounds in 16 weeks. I started at 405 pounds and I am now down to 337 pounds. I have lost 17 percent of my body weight. I am now much more active and I am exercising at least 2 hours a day. I still have a long journey ahead of me but I am getting there. My goal is to get to under 200 pounds. It might take me another 12-18 months to achieve my goal but I will get there. I even had to buy some new clothes because my other clothes didn't fit. My goal for this summer is to get to under 300 pounds by August 17 which would put me at losing 105 pounds in my first 6 months. I want to exercise at least 2 hours a day.

Want some advice?

Throw in some strength building stuff; you'll thank yourself at the end of your goal when you aren't weaker than you were when you were 12 because you lost a ton of muscle along the way. :(

It's awesome. Congratulations, you're a very strong man. I highly suggest you add some muscle building to your program before swimming and walking. Muscles burn fat even when sleeping. More muscles more energy consumption. And it's gonna be easier for you walking and swimming when you are stronger.

Thanks everyone for the words of encouragement and suggestions on strength training/lifting weights. I have actually been incorporating some free weights into my routine. It's nothing major.

Update: I am now at 336 pounds. Again, I realize I still have a long way to go but I am making progress. Here is my progress. I have lost 69 pounds in 17 weeks. So far, I have not had any issues with loose skin since I am going at a moderate rate.
