40 pound weight loss in 3 months?

On a proper weight loss program, it should be possible to lose 30 to 40 pounds in 3 months. On a well designed plan a person could lose at least 3 pounds per week. That would be 12 pounds in a month and 36 pounds in 3 months. Without pills or injections or starvation that's a resonable amount agreed upon by most dieticians and doctors. It's not hard to imagine how a well structured program customized for the individual, could help that person lose a few more pounds than that.The end result of a well designed program could be 40 pounds or more lost in 3 months, which is a huge drop. It may look like a big number, but when approached systematically week by week, it's a very resonable goal to shoot for. What do you think?

I think I don't like blanket suggestions like this that are inapplicable to certain individuals.
