Cheers everyone! I am glad I found this forum. I am looking for support to get me started on my health and fitness regime. I have come to a crossroads in my life and I refuse to live with this weight any longer. I have started walking, eating carefully and I've just ordered a bowflex. I have 50 lbs to lose and would like to go from a size 16 to a 8.

I was diagnosed with Graaves Disease - Hyperthyroidism a couple of years ago and have found that I have gained an extra 20 lbs easy. I am on medication to control the tyhroid but am hoping that someday I may be able to go off the meds all together.

I need support to keep me going on my quest as I don't have very many supportive people around me. By that I mean I am the only one on a health kick in my circle of family and friends.

Thanks for any help you would like to pass along.

Hi Pretty...I have found that working on one habit at a time has really helped me over the past 3 weeks. I have 85 more lbs. to go. Recently I have been working hard on making exercising & stretching. I am beginning to like it..feel that I need it to keep me going. I am about to move on to the next step( For me) working on my eating habits. And that will be the hardest for me. I love to eat all those things..we are not suppost to...hehehe. I wanted to do it this way..to avoid feeling overwelmed. So far it is working for me. I know that u can do this if U want 2 honey. It has to be what U think of everyday. I just got my Web Cam..I have took a picture of me & set it 2 my desktop background. I am who I see everytime I turn on my puter...that helps to remind me..that I am not happy weighing as much as I do. I keep a photo gallery of pics...when I weighed alot less than what I do now...helps in motivating me. I have decided to start a journal of what I eat..now that I want to try to control what I put in my mouth. If you need a friend..Just Email me..We can do it!!! Here for U :D @};-

Thanks for the encouraging words Deb. Why is weight loss one of the hardest things to do in life? We want it so bad but yet we are crippled to our food! Doesn't make much sense.

How much have you lost so far? I think I'll take a pic and put on my desktop also. Or maybe a billboard that I can see on my way to work each day :0)

HI Pretty,

welcome to the forum. Here you will find the necessary support to start you on your way. You already know what needs to be done - so you're half way there:):):)
It's probably not going to be easy all the time. Try to keep a log of what you eat and of all the exercise you do. Feel free to count all your activities as exercise. For example, when going shopping, try to park far away from the entrance and the carts, that way you have to walk farther to get to your groceries and you have to bring the cart back after you 'weight-lifted' them all into your trunk. The only bad thing about this..you have to tell the nice guy at the checkout that you don't need help. If you include all these little tasks that you do on a daily basis, it gives you a boost showing that you are already on the way and only have to build up on this. Of course I am not saying that you shouldn't exercise, but if you have a hard time finding the 45 - 60 minutes for a proper workout - this is a start. Also ...don't take the elevator... use the stairs whenever possible.

color=blue] Hi Pretty,
Welcome, I'm new also.. I hope people can help you with your problem..if thats what u would like to call it. I think all you need is a bit of disipline, lol..trust all of us its not easy..but it starts to be a routine and you wont know the difference in a while. You have got a bit of advice above that will be good to help you with. I think the main thing to watch is what you eat.. although thats not the only thing, it is quite important. Its hard, but if you eat something fatty the best thing to do is to get rid of it through exersice.
hope you do well.. and keep us up to date on how your doing.. cheers!

once you get confortable in your routine, and you try to take a day off, you will feel bad and guilty, and it'll get you right back at it the next day ... it becomes part of your daily routine, like going to work.
Some people have told me that running is much the same ... it's like a drug ... once you get going on it for any length of time, it's actually hard not to do it ... just getting to that point, is not that easy ... AND, that's why we are all here ... to have others keep us motivated.

Thanks for all the encouraging words. I am definitely going to give it my all. I took some pics today of my before shots that I will keep in a scrapbook. Six months from now I will be putting in my after shots.:p

Thanks again for your help.
