4+ lbs/week club!!!

Just curious who's on a diet/fitness regiment that would have you lose 4+ lbs per week. I'm eating around 1000kcal per day and working out for 60mins per day (elliptical and recumbent bike). I'm hoping to keep at least a pace of 4lbs/week.

I'd like to reach my weight loss goal (180lbs) by June 1st.

Anyone else have similar goals?

I'm not shooting for 4+lbs a week (though I do have fantasies, lol). I'll settle for a measly pound a week, just as long as I can keep it off in the long run.

Good luck with your weight loss goals! And don't be too hard on yourself if you come across a week here and there where you lose less than 4 lbs. As long as you're making this 'diet' a plan for life, it's all good. :D

June 1st is only 4 months away! Did you put the weight on in four months? 1000 cals is WAY too low for you, its way too low for anyone. I think my 11 month old son probably eats 800 a day and he is 29lbs! Please dont starve yourself. Lose the weight in a healthy way.

I will assist you if you want.

I wish I could lose 4 lbs a week! Im right now losing about 2.5 a week, and I know that will slow down the thinner I get....it already has started:mad:
I eat about 1200 calories a day, and do cardio 60 minutes 4 x a week, strength 45 minute 2x a week, as well as yoga 3-4 times a week

however, good luck to you....and take care:)

250 pounds and 1000 calories is starving yourself. I mentioned in another post that my 29lb 11 month old son is probably close to 800 cals per day. You're going to sabotage your metabolism and decrease your BMR. Not too mention lose a lot of muscle and keep a lot of fat.

I started out thinking the lower the calories the better.
I've definitely changed my perspective.

I think when you have a lot to lose it's easy to get in the mind set, that "this is what I MUST do".

We're taught that if we lower calories, we'll lose weight.

Often times, what we don't hear (whether because we don't have the information, or we just don't want to hear) is that too low of calories and our body just stops burning them efficiently.

While losing weight I have learned that regardless of how QUICKLY I would like this weight to come off, if I don't do it in a healthy and reasonable manner, it will just come back and there is NO way, I'm ever going to go through THIS again ;)

Your heart is a muscle Wimic - think about what happens if calories are too low and instead of fat, you're losing muscle.

Trust me, I have *walked* in your shoes - I've looked all too closely at the underbelly of 260 pounds. It is overwhelming.

Sometimes we think "This isn't possible" other times we think "Extreme positions call for extreme measures".

Please consider looking at upping your calories, check out or and see what they suggest as a range.

i'm just about 265 (down from 383) and my calories are about 1600ish for the day and on a good week can lose 3 -4 lbs (unless of course i'm being incredibly whiney and it's only 2 lbs a week :D (and i'm a middle aged female, it's supposed to be harder for me :)

up your calories and you might just see the results you want...

Hey guys - I really appreciate the concern. But how can I stuff myself any more with food if i'm just not hungry? For example, i JUST finished a big plate of chicken/vegetable stirfry for dinner. The foods I'm eating are good foods and I'm taking a multivitamin.

It's true that I'm eager to lose the weight - like everyone... but I realize that it's not going to happen overnight. I'm aiming this high so that if (and when) I come up short I'll still have achieved a great deal. I always aim higher or to do better than I expect to do.

My dieting is not something that I do recklessly - I'm well aware that 1000 calories is a LOT less than I'm supposed to be getting... but I feel fine doing it. I assure you - I wouldn't comprimise my health... afterall - that would just be counterproductive :)

Thanks again for all the comments. I appreciate that there are people out there who can both relate to me and offer support. :)

The body is a funny thing. If you start eating a certain amount over a long period of time, your body will adjust and to those eating habits. When I first started eating 5-8 times per day, I was stuffing myself. Now if I dont, Im starving. The body has a crazy adaptation feature.

How can you eat more, the one thing I noticed is that you said "A big plate." Thats a great healthy meal (considering it wasnt covered in oil :D) but portions should decrease as meal frequency increases. I wouldnt focus on the total number of calories as much as I would focus on eating multiple times per day with great foods. Good Luck

Thanks for the advice Tony. I find it hard to eat multiple times throughout the day because of my work. But I've been trying to space out smaller portions more and more.

Its definitely hard when you have work or school, but I believe that preparation is key. Do you have breaks scheduled at work? This would be a perfect feeding opportunity. At my old job I had two 15's and a 30 min lunch. I would be eating at all three.

Hey Tony! I don't actually have breaks. I'm an engineer and I work in the office - but it's hard to fit in mini-lunches when I'm hard at work. Here's a question for ya - I know that cutting calories effectively helps you lose weight - but what about fat? I've been trying to avoid foods that are high in fat and I've been averaging around 15-20g of fat per day (0g of trans fat). Is that too high/low and how much of a difference does your daily fat intake make to your weight loss?

You dont need to avoid fat to lose fat. Most fat free foods contain more calories than the fatty versions anyways. Usually extra sugar is substituted to make the foods taste good.

There are different types of fats~saturated and trans are the bad ones, but mono and polyunsaturated are the good ones. You should get around 20-30% of your calories from fat.

Its said that you should get them in thirds: 1/3 sat, 1/3 mono, and 1/3 poly.

Some good fat sources are nuts, fish, and oils. If you go through the beginner links in my sig, you'll see the Grocery List. Check that out for an entire list of great foods.

welcome

Welcome to the forum Wimic, if you're new. It sounds like you (like me) go from periods of overeating to undereating. We have to find balance, something we can maintain for the duration. There is no virtue in going hungry nor, I'm finding, is it necessary to lose weight. I had an 1100 calorie day the other day and when I went to bed my head was screaming at me I was so hungry. There is a better way. You will lose weight and get healthier just by chosing better foods. I hope you get the information you want. Take care.

Wimic,Tony , M2M are right bodybuilders eat 4 an 5 thousand calories a day now I know your not a bodybuilder but the right food at the right time an the stuff your doing an plenty of water it will fall off If you only drop off 500 calories a day an doing the exercises your doing you will still drop a lot of weight.....
