2ne's Journey

My name is Nene (2*Ne), and I'm obese. There, I said it. i wanted to do it like the standard AA format for introductions. I think if nothing else, it helps to acknowledge where you are.
Currently I weigh about 135kg (just under 300lbs). I started a weight loss diet a couple of months back (right in the middle of summer - no better motivation, right :)?) Then I went on vacation and it's been downhill (or should I say UP hill!) ever since.

This is my first time online doing a diary, but I need help. See, where I live, being 300+lbs is not a disaster, merely an inconvenience. But for me, it's getting close to a catastrophe. I don't hate myself, but I do hate what excess weight does to me, my appearance, my self-esteem, my health.

So I'm starting - slow. My aim is to lose 1kg (about 2.3lbs) a week, through a combo of exercise and diet.

I will be sharing my weight weekly (tomorrow's first official weigh-in), and my successes and struggles.

I do need all the help and support I can get though.
Here's to me!

Hi Chip

Thanks! And as you've travelled the route I'm planning on travelling I add you to my list of folks who inspire and motivate me. (sorry, you don't have a choice here LOL)

Good luck! i'll definitely stop by to cheer you on.

The first step is to really instill it into your brain that this is what YOU want! I'm so happy to see that you're ready to make that step!

Day 1 - or not?

Today I learned that my weight gain has a ratcheting pattern. I am stable or even declining for long stretches of up to 6 months. Then I hit a patch, usually triggered by some family or work stress. Over a period as short as 2 months my weight goes up 10-20lbs - and stays there.

I've seen the pattern. Now i have to change it.

I didn't work out today because I hurt my back. But I did work - a lot. My goal for this week is 2lbs. Tomorrow I'll post my weight, and then again next week.

Got a real boost from Chip today - thank you again!

Verdict on day 1? A bit scary, but good overall.

Awesome! This is a great thing your doing!

I have never been obese, but I have gotten close when I was in highschool.

Maybe take extra steps to help with the stress? Like meditating or singing for a few minutes everyday some of your favorite songs?

Stress affects everything.. doesn't it. Sleep, eating.. etc.

I need to work on that as well. Relaxing can be hard these days. Hope you find a way you can use!

Hey Nene :) Glad you joined the forum :D I liked your "AA" intro, lol. Hey, sometimes thats the best way to get yourself motivated. Hope your back is feeling better- I actually hurt by back last week- felt like the worlds biggest baby, lol, but it was good enuf today that I finally went to the gym. woohoo! :)

So what kinda changes are you making to your daily food intake? Don't be afraid to go to other peoples diaries and ask what they're doing- we all use different methods that work for us... I lost 40lbs, then gained 20 back in the last year... I'm finally back down seven pounds, but man, I'd have been MUCH happier if I wouldn't have gained that weight back... Ahhhh, such is life. ANyway- hope to here more from ya soon~ stop by other diaries and check out some ideas :)

Hi Nene

I started off not far under 300 pounds too - so I know what it is like. It seems like there is a mountain to climb - but there are quite a lot of people here all trying to do the same thing.

I only found this website a couple of weeks ago - and before that I was comparitively doing it alone. You have made a really good move by finding it at the start of your journey.

The best piece of advice that I could give you is to get a pedometer. Mine has made the difference between this attempt and my numerous failed attempts in the past.

Good luck. I have every confidence that you can do it.

Take care
Margaret

Wow!

Day 2, and I'm super motivated. My back's much better, and I'm raring to go.

Reality check: my weight as of this a.m: 137.3kg, about 303lbs.

My first thought - YIKES! My next thought - OK, that's the heaviest I'll ever be. I've actually been all the way up to 144kb....

Anyway, THANK YOU TO ALL THE PEOPLE SUPPORTING ME. I promise I will stop by all your diaries and leave word.

So far my biggest challenge is eating healthily. I've decided to give myself a boost this first week (and also simplify my life!) by having a calorie-controlled shake and fruit for breakfast, plus ensuring I drink up to 1.5litres (just under 8 glasses, I think) of water a day. Nothing else, just those 2 goals this week.

Also I plan to weigh myself only once a week, on Sunday mornings.

Here goes...!

You know what, kudos to you!

Seriously, I mean everyone loves to jump into diets making inevitable deal breakers.

I.e. "I'M GOING COLD TURKEY ON EVERYTHING AND ONLY EATING SALADS!!"

It never works!

I'm glad to see you're taking baby-steps which is really the true factor for SUCCESS!!...I hope you attain your goals, hun!

I, too, have no doubt that you can do it, hun! You are in the perfect place for lots of support. Good luck and stay focused and strong and you are on your way to success !

Hi Nene,

Hi Omega,
Thanks for stopping by my post. Wow, I really see what you mean about pedometers. My exercise of choice though, is a combination of training on the elliptical machine, floor work (meaning abs, legs and glutes mainly), and exercise to aerobic videos. At 300+lbs I just don't have the confidence to go outside - yet.

On the up side, I find that with the right music I can do absolutely anything! So mainly it's a matter of self-discipline and I can get my exercise in every day.
Keep up the good work girl, you are truly an inspiration. P.S. My goal for Christmas is to fit into a 20/22 from M & S. I got two great dresses from Next over the summer, which I hope to wear for Christmas (size 22s).

Marching forward...

Wow!!!!! - I have been in Evans clothes for so long - I didnt know that M & S and Next went up to size 22. M & S used to stop at size 18 when I was size 20 on the way up and I dont think I have ever been into a branch of Next. I was so far above their likely size range when I first noticed them on the highstreets. I must go shopping in these shops.

If you can get into size 22s from those shops you will have done really well. What a great motivation technique - to buy clothes in the smaller size.

If the gym is working for you for getting your exercise in then that is great. There is not just one right answer to how to get exercise into your life - just that losing weight is so much easier if an exercise element is there on a very regular basis.

Best wishes
Margaret

Walk, Crawl, Limp, Whatever but GO DIRECTLY TO NEXT/M&S. Do NOT stop, do not pass Go, do not collect £200, go NOW to those stores....

LOL. Seriously. In Evans the only remotely trendy thing (i.e. trendy circa 1900) I bought was a one piece swimsuit (which I'll break out at Christmas, as part of my treat for hitting my 20lb weight loss mark).

Happy shopping

Hi Nene

I certainly will be paying these stores a visit - and soon. I have been in nothing but Evans clothes for over 20 years (when I went above size 18).

When you think that they have nothing in your size - there is no reason to ever go in (or go into the clothes department with M & S - I have been in their food department millions of times!!!!!!!!).

Thanks for the info.

Take care
Best wishes
Margaret

Day 3

A weird thing happened today. As is common to those of us just starting out on a new diet plan, I couldn't wait till Sunday for my next weigh in, but decided to see if there was any movement in my poundage - even if it's just water weight. Well, I weighed myself on my digital scale - and got 3 completely different weights, ranging from 134.6 to 136.7kg. None of them got as high as the 137.3kg starting weight of last Sunday.
So after much head scratching I decided to ignore the scale for now. And I've decided to weigh 3 times and take the average each time I weigh in.

Anyway, today so far:
Food: Not so great - I don't know if it was over-excitement at my apparent (not to say miraculous) loss or what, but after a good start I just didn't get it together towards the end of the day.

Still, I stopped eating at 6pm (it's about 9 now, and I know i won't be hitting the kitchen again today), which is something.

So mixed day overall.

Hi Nene

A couple of bits of advice.

Make sure that your scales are in the same place - which is a hard surface - each time you weigh yourself.

Take measurements. They are really useful for getting an indication of whether things are working even when things appear to stand still. Most of us hit a plateau at some point and it is nice to see some evidence of something happening.

Take care
Best wishes
Margaret

Hitting the wall

Today I had a great day. Good breakfast, good lunch, all good till after supper. Then I crashed and burned. Anyway, tomorrow's another day. I'm finding out all sorts of cool tips and stuff online, reading various posts, blogs and such. I'm still here!

Good day - holding steady

Fhis may seem strange for someone who has been dieting on and off for years, but I really didn't have a clue about HOW I ate... But a few weeks ago I started paying more attention.

I'm not terribly hungry in the mornings - up till 10am. Then I'm starving, or it feels like it. And the quickest way to stave off the pangs is to eat something with white flour. Then I get bloated, but still feel peckish.

If I eat the kind of junk I normally go for, I get really really full and heavy, then I get depressed, and I want to eat more to make myself feel better. Which of course makes me feel worse.

Anyway, that's me looking backwards.

Today, good day overall. I'm going to have to find an exercise plan that I love. So far, I'm just dragging myself to the elliptical trainer, like I'm going to my execution. I know myself well enough to know if things don't change soon I'll pack it in. Help, anyone? Ideas? So long as it doesn't involve a)going to the gym, b) going outdoors, I'm willing to try :rotflmao:

Anyway, I'm onto taebo videos. so far, so good. and the music is great!

Foodwise, today was OK. I haven't drunk as much water as I planned, but hey, poco a poco, no?

Hi Nene,
I understand the whole food ...feeling full ..

actually when you eat ...your endorphins are set off...

thats why a lot of people keep eating ...because they are addicted to those endorphins ...
ITs hard. I packed a package of cookies last night down. One whole package has ten cookies in it, they were huge cookies. But they have a huge calorie count. So I was doomed from the start. Not again! lol

The endorphin kick is getting old and so is the weight

You can do it hun! Its just your brain chemistry, wanting the endorphins to go ...thats also why you get depressed right after...
up...
and than no endorphins
and down

so it takes a toll emotionally as well ...

so I wish you all the best and will catch your diary next time! :)
