At my heaviest I was 235 lbs. After having health problems (high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and difficulties with my gallbladder functioning), I decided enough was enough. I went from 185 when I got married to 235 in exactly one year. The first picture, in the green shirt, was on my first anniversary... as you can see I was clearly not happy. When I saw myself in this picture, I was mortified. How could I possibly let myself get to this point?
Through my entire life I've always been overweight. You could classify me as "the girl who ate her feelings." My entire family is obese and never really knew much in the way of leading a healthy lifestyle. I grew up in a sedentary house where "meat and potatoes" was the normal dinner. Since all of the health problems came about when I was at my heaviest, I slowly started to cut out animal products and junk food from my diet. Last month I decided to go vegetarian (lacto-ovo). I've lost 40 lbs since beginning my journey and hope to one day be down to at least 140, which is right around the middle of the recommended healthy weight range for my height. Once I get there, I will see where I am at and go from there since I have absolutely no idea what it is like to weigh that little.
While I would like to do this by the end of the year, I'm not setting any strict time limits because I tend to beat myself up about it if I don't meet my goals. I want to do it the right way and keep it off for good.
*I currently alternate days between cardio and upper body work.
*I jog/run/walk 2-3 miles a day, 3x a week.
*On the days I don't run, I do resistance bands on my upper body. I'm waiting until I've lost a few more lbs to start working on strengthening my core.
*Yoga 2-3x a week for increasing flexibility and mind/body relaxation
*I don't count calories, just watch what I eat, several small meals a day with healthy snacks in between.
*I also drink almost nothing but water, close to 2 liters a day.
