20lbs weight loss for december

Okay so I am trying to lose 20 pounds before december. Just a goal I had in mind. I am 5'4 and I weigh 165 pounds and I am 23 years old. I excercise on a consistant basis but I only seem to lose 5-7 pounds and then i gain it back by bad eating habits usually during a weekend. I am fustrated because I work out at least 7 times a week and i sweat profusely. The only things that I do not do on a consistant basis are abs, and my arms. I also want them toned up as well. I eat fairly ok. I eat three meals a day and maybe a snack if I have time. I usually eat before 7 at night. Does anyone have any ideas that would help in my conquest??

Congrats on your goal, and welcome to the forum!!

It sounds like you are doing a lot of strength training, but I'm not sure. Are you doing much cardio exercise?

20 pounds by the beginning or end of December? By the beginning may be asking a bit much of yourself, especially because it sounds like you will have worked off any water weight that usually help us get off to a fast start.

I would recommend starting an account with fitday.com or sparkpeople.com. These sites will help you monitor your caloric intake and expense through exercise. Remember, 3500 calories is a pound of fat, so if you keep track of calories in and out, you should be able to identify any trouble spots.

I would suggest making a strict diet for yourself. Diet+exercise will help you make a lot of progress, but one without the other is slooow.

I know its really hard to do, because I am in the same situation. Just start slowly by cutting your carbs down and increasing veggies, drinking a lot of water, etc. Cut down on fatty foods and sugar... you should see A LOT more progress then.

Hope that helps!

If you figure 2 pounds a week, that is definately realistic by December 22. If you are meaning to lose 20 BEFORE December, I can't help...I don't even think that is possible. If you mean to lose that by Christmas week, I personally think that is doable, but you are going to have to stick to your guns and eat right, drink water like there is no tomorrow and work out religiously. That is what I would do anyway.

you have already highlighted the problem

you lose the weight

then you eat bad and mess it all up

where could u be going wrong, im not quite sure, maybe you should go spend loads of money on group memberships or buy loads of books on quantum physics and/or rocket science :p

on a serious note, i reckon u can do it!

the hardest part really is regulating what you eat, we all know what its like to have habits, good and bad, but if you really want to lose that weight then keep up on the exercise and quite simply improve on your diet :)

u maybe asking a lot but there is nothing to stop you achieving ur goal other than urself!

keep us posted on your progress :)

hey there, I am in the same weight category/height-and definitely have the same problem with the weekends. I think the only way to solve our problems is to plan out the meals for the weekends beforehand. have you visited fitday.com? they have great resources there to help. you should also have an idea of what you need in terms of calories each day. then you can see if you are eating the right amount of food to lose weight.

then keep up on the exercise and quite simply improve on your diet :)

<grin> Yah, simply improve your diet ;-) That's all!

Thanks you guys! I really appreciate the advice and keep them coming! TO whom these comments may concern: I am not hardly doing any strength training, I think. I do the treadmill twice on mondays and wednesdays for either 27 minutes to 30 minutes with intensity ranging from 3.5 to start and when I run for 10-15 minutes straight 5.6 and 6.0. THen i do the ellipitcal for 10 minutes with a 5 level on the weight loss button. THen I run two laps in an indoor track. which is half of a half of a mile. THen i sometimes do lungs but rarely and sometimes arms. I do all of this monday-Friday and i relax on the weekends. Anyways if you have any more advice from what I just wrote then bring it! Also thanks for the websites I will try them out!

perhaps you should look into stregnth training. 1lb of muscle can burn up to 60 more calories a day without doing anything :)
