Most of my life I have struggled with my weight. In high school when I was working out I was too skinny, when I graduated from high school following several cheerleading injuries I started to gain weight. At that time my mom put me on a diet and I only weighed 130lbs. Since then it has been hard for me to accept who I am because I felt like my weight defined who I am and how much my family loves me. Well, I have finally reached this point in my life where I know who I am and I've accepted myself for who I am. Even though I am over weight I am happy and it's taken me a long time to get to this point. I know I'm a beautiful person inside and out and now it's time to make changes for myself, not to please anyone else. My biggest problem is that I'm a very lazy person once I'm at home so keeping the motivation up will be a challenge. I'm excited to share my journey with people and am excided to see where ths journey takes me.

Hi Bea and welcome to the diaries :) Having your mom put you on a diet when you´re a grown woman would tell anyone that their weight defined their value for her, which is really unpleasant and hard to shake (even if she meant well; I don´t know your family after all). I´m glad you got that out of your system! What are your reasons for wanting to change now? Having those spelled out clearly (for yourself) can help when you´re struggling.
Best of luck on your journey :)

Thanks for the advice. I just feel like I've accepted who I am and it's time to change for myself not because someone thinks I should look a certain way. I just want to improve my overall health and continue living the happy life I have made for myself.

Hi, Bea & welcome to the forum.
I just want to improve my overall health and continue living the happy life I have made for myself.
I love that!
I know I'm a beautiful person inside and out
This is so important. We should be nurturing & nourishing our bodies, not punishing them. Good for you!
You are among supportive & kind people here. Becoming healthier is what most of us are aiming for. Cheers, Cate

So today was my first day off in 2018 and I have to day I'm proud of myself. Normaly on my days off I snack all day on not so nutrisous items but instead I peeled some carrots and had some almonds and made healthy choises. I'm staying motivated and taking it one day at a time.

Well done, Bea! Feeding your body nutritious treats is so much more satisfying in the long run than stuffing it full of empty calories.

Well done Bea! Every single time we overcome one of those hurdles is a day to give ourselves credit. You are on a roll :)

Today was my first weigh in of 2018 and I was a little dissapointed. After a week of eating healthy and working out I ended up gaining a pound. This is normaly the time when I throw in the towel and reach for aNY type of carb to console me. It's been on and off raining all morning so I can't go on my normal jog and the weather matches how I felt when I stepped on the scale. Instead of giving in I went to the gym did cardio and strength training so even though I'm upset about that 1 pound I still left my house and continued trying and that is something I'm proud of.

If you are new to exercise or adding new stuff to an old routine, expect to gain a few pounds in the beginning - it's water! Your muscles will hold onto a bit more water in the beginning. I almost always gain 3-5 lbs. Don't worry about it - it comes off after several weeks and your body adapts.

That is indeed something to be proud of. Well done! As Jen said it will be water retention from the extra exercise. Keep up the good work :)

Well done sticking with the healthy options. And I agree with the water-in-muscle thing. Better to have that water in your muscles than in your ankles :)
