1st diary

Trying to loose weight seems to be my way of life. Trying being the word.
This time I don't want to to try I am going to do it. I have never kept any kind of diary before so hopefully this will help.

I am an office assistant which means I am on my butt most of the day and I do catering events which means I am surrounded by lots of lovely food. I have started to realise that although I hardly eat in general, when I do have an event to cater to I pick at a lot of food and it is ALWAYS rich and high carb. I was going to start my diet after next week since I have a 5 day event to cook for but if I don't learn to eat better now it is never going to happen. I cant keep putting it off.

I am very short at 5ft so the weight really shows. I weigh 13st 8lbs.

DAY 1

Me again :)

I find that it's really helpful to keep a detailed diary here. (I list all my food as specifically as possible) That way you have to live up to (and admit to!) what you've eaten in a day. Also, the more specifically you record your food, the better you can work out where you're going wrong and how to fix it.

Also, I wouldn't worry about the carbs (they're an essential macronutrient). I personally think it's all about the calories.

I agree with Amy- don't count your carbs. They're important! However, you do want to change the type of carbs you eat- whole grains instead of white.

It has to be super hard to be around all that delicious food. I'm a nanny, so I'm in a house filled with kid foods that I have to try not to eat, so I can relate. Try to find some healthy foods that you really enjoy so that you look forward to them. To avoid the munching, I make it a rule that I don't take ONE bite of something that I don't want to finish. Once you take just one bite and get that wonderful taste in your mouth, it's so much harder to not take a second!

Good luck!

I just wanted to wish you luck! I am starting (another) diet and healthier lifestyle as of tomorrow. Things need to change. It is hard when you work around food I know this as my problems began when I worked part time in a fish and chip shop. I look forward to following your diary x

You want to put that in your signature for it to show up on every post, which you won't be able to do unless you have ten posts, I'm afraid. (The option should show up through the control panel once you have 10 posts)

Really Really Hard

Day 4

I am still here and although not doing great, am a lot better.

There is just so many amazing things in the house to eat at the moment and a lot of it I could make in minutes. It feels like everything is shouting out my name just to remind me that I am there, either that or I am just plain crazy.
I have the next 6 days to get through, without living on everything starchy and fat.
Well Good luck to you all out there.

1 cappacino,
2 food packs
soup, and 4 slices bread with cream cheese and cheddar cheese.

Get the junk food out of your house!!!!!!!! All of it. Give it away to a homeless shelter! Explode it with dynamite! Send it in orbit around the moon!

High calorific foods taste good, but they are not your friend. They are making you miserable, overweight and unhealthy. They deserve to be dumped. I used to look upon bad foods as a treat, but now my attitude has changed completely- eating healthily is a treat. You are treating your body and making it energetic, and you are treating yourself as you will feel much lighter, and more attractive.

On day 3 you did not eat enough at all! No wonder your body is screaming out for junk. You have to take this slowly and not starve yourself, it took a while for the weight to go on, and it will take a while for it all to come off again. I was like you, when i started a diet i would eat hardly anything- i wanted results, and i wanted them STRAIGHT AWAY, despite having been large for a while.

LISTEN TO ME!!!!!!! I really want you to succeed at this, and you can, you just have to slow down, eat more, try to look on eating healthily as a good thing rather than just HELL. I really find that eating low gi foods helps with my cravings.

Tell the voice in your head that is screaming at you to eat junk- NO. And that voice will get quiter and quiter, til, in a few weeks time you will barely hear it at all. And then it will be gone, and there will be you eating healthily on autopilot, getting slimmer and slimmer every month, until finally, you at at your goal weight, you are brimming with happiness and confidence. You have to believe it will happen. If you eat well it will happen, no question about it. You can be slimmer than you've ever been before, be in hot weather wearing a skirt without your thighs rubbing together, eel proud of your body when you step in the pool, get the small dress sizes in normal shops, get wolf whistled at, have so much energy, and have amazing sex.

But first, you need to eat more, and eat healthily xxxxx

Ps... what is a food pack?

Pss... sorry if i am being all shouty!

I think she said she works in catering, so depending on the setup of the business the junk food may be unavoidable.

How many calories are in a food pack? It doesn't look like very much but it might actually be meeting your needs. Are you getting over 1200 calories a day? Or otherwise do you have medical advice that says it's ok not to?

Hi, To Both of you, and thank you.

Shouting is GOOD, and thanks, I joined here for all the encouragement and shouting, lol. It definitely beats everyone else I know who love me even though I am fat, which is all good and dandy, BUT What About Me Loving Myself. Please feel free to come and shout anytime I am going wrong - This weekend is going to be very difficult, but I WILL WIN.
I do catering and especially this weekend there are ingredients for nearly every food that is lovely and fattening.
Eating enough is something I have always had a problem with. Now about the food packs - They are from a diet I have started and stopped too many times to count since last year. Each food pack contains approximately 160cal. 4 of them are supposed to give you the RDA of everything you need to survive plus some milk.
I don't think it is the diet for me as eating less IS my problem, but I have some of the packs left and they are expensive and handy when I need a meal quick.
Thanks again. Xx
DAY 5

1 food pack
bowl of yogurt-banana, blueberries, and too much sugar
pasta and cheese

For a vegetarian I seem to forget that veg actualy exist. NOT GOOD

Make sure you get at least 1200 calories per day, regardless of RDA. It might contain the vitamins/ minerals/ nutrients you need but you still need to have enough calories to fuel your body.

700 cals a day might make you lose weight, but its so not healthy, I'm glad you didn't stick to the food pack diet, its not a myth that if you eat next to nothing your metabolism slows down and then you regain all the weight. The companies who sell this sort of product make me really angry. They are profiting from peoples self hatred in my opinion. I guess that having a food pack or two a day is fine, but don't only eat that please.

I've been thinking about your catering work... maybe if you are mainly exposed to the yummy unhealthy food at the weekend you could eat it in moderation. I don't know if your english like me, or what sort of food you cater, but if there are things like quiche, scotch eggs, sandwiches, maybe you could have a small amount of each with a big salad? And such sugar free sweets or mints while you are preparing food, so you don't keep taking sneaky little bites.

Read up about the gi diet I lost over three stone (42lbs) n it before, and maintained that weight for over two years. Then i started pigging out again and put all the weight on again lol, but it really did work and help me with my seriously bad sugar cravings. I have lost 11lbs on it again now, and my cravings are practically gone.

To fail to plan is to plan to fail, so get on some cooking websites and look for some nice low cal recipes, then do some food shopping straight away and get the ingredients.

Sending loads of diet willpower and skinny vibes to you!

Hi,
Thanks, I will check out the GI recipes. That is really amazing that you lost so much weight with it. I will definitely have to give it a try.
I am indian but cater a variety of meals, a lot of Italian for some reason, Also I am a vegetarian who doesn't eat meat fish or eggs. But saying that I could go for days without remembering that vegetables actually exist except for potatoes, which I think are just starch.
The only time I seemed to actually really loose weight was when I was made to eat 5-6 times a day, just small amounts but I think it got my metabolism working and I went to visit my parents in SOuth Africa last year, I was there for about 9 weeks and lost over 1st without trying. They gave me no choice but to eat at least meals a day with lots of veg, and because I was always full I didn't look for junk food in between.
The hardest thing is not the knowing what to eat but putting it into practice. I really agree with you about the planning so I will start with the plan I had from years ago of eating 5 small amounts a day.

Thank you for the encouragement and the skinny vibes. Please feel free to pop in and add your encouragement.

Good luck on your journey.

XXx

It's great that you have an idea of what has worked for you in the past- is there any way to put it into practice without your parents around?

Lol,
Yeah, I am going to start eating 5 small meals a day, The diet was made for me a few years ago and included veg and fruit and also took into count that unless breakfast is really fast to make I end up skipping it.
So I am starting today and although I will have lots of food around me I am not going to pick at it continuously but just have it at my set times. Its not the very best way but it will do for this weekend.
Take care.
Xx

A lot of indian foods are quite low gi, daansaks are good as you are getting protein from the lentils. Just try to eat basmaiti rice instead of long grain as thats the lowest gi rice. And use new potatoes instead of normal ones in potato based dishes. And stay away from the ghee!

I think a lot of vegetarians struggle to get enough vegetables, which is a bit ironic really. My best friend eats loads of cheese pasta and potatoes. Eating small meals is definately the way to go. It doesn't work for me tho, as i tend to end up eating too much. I am a piggy. Oink oink :piggy:.

How has it gone for you today? x
