18, prime to start?

I am an 18 year old male. I am skinny and weigh 145-150 pounds, about 5'11". From kinder garden through grade 12 i danced. Ya, im a male dancer... Get over it, not gay. Anyway, while dancing i had a six-pack starting in about grade 9 or 10 roughly. I do not know if this was because i was uber skinny then or what, but i was in good shape. I have been out of school for 6 months now and done dancing for 10. My belly is gone so now im just another skinny nerdy kid and i have always been tired of my skinny arms and chest. I have been researching Rushfit and P90x but am not sure if they are right for me as those programs help with sculpting/cardio. Personally i think i need some body mass and muscle mass before i do those. Does anyone suggest simple pushups/situps to start or maybe weight lifting? Possibly jumping into one of the two programs i mentioned? If someone has any suggestions How to help it would be much appreciated.

Sorry for this typical post of "little kids wants abs" but at 18 i think it is the right time to start working on my fitness and diet.

Dude, you way better off than most people since you have the experience behind you. One exercise that tests big muscles and cardio is this one: Don't know how weird it is until you try it. Legs, abs, shoulder, and back are the largest muscles, with the triceps and chest complementing each other. That's what I do. I'm 19, 180 lbs, 5'9" and I've got some weird stories of my own.

^ I figured it would be burpees...

OP, firstly, last I checked male dancers spend their time having agile, hot chicks in skintight lycra twirling all around them and getting up close and personal with them, sometimes for hours at a time. If that's a recipe for gay, I don't wanna be straight.

Exercise-wise, I'm not familiar with rushfit, and only vaguely familiar with the concept of p90x, so I can't give any solid recommendations with regards to either of these programs. From my experience, push ups gave me more muscle up to being able to do able 40 or 50 of them, however I started much skinnier than you. Using external weights to build muscle is almost always more reliable for that goal than using bodyweight. That's not to say that bodyweight exercises are bad, but for building muscle, picking something else up and moving it is usually better. If push ups and sit ups are where you start, then that's fine, but if you want to make progress, don't stay there if you have the option of moving onto something else. From what I hear, p90x isn't great for building muscle mass, so a gym membership might be a better investment.
