17 years old atempting to tone up.. again

I just recently joined this site and I needed the opinions and experience from other people that have accomplished what I am attempting to do.

I am 17 years old, I weigh about 200lbs (down from 215), I'm 6'2.
I am trying to lose body fat and tone up for the upcoming summer. I have been eating relatively healthy for the past week (after spring break) and I am currently involved in rugby which lasts about 1hr and 45mins 3-4 times a week. On days there is no rugby I go for a 2km run. I have also been doing ab workouts daily for about 1 week also.. specifically "Abs of Steel" with Tammilee Webb haha, it's from 1991.

I eat about 3 times a day, I would say close to a calorie deficit. I eat chicken or turkey accompanied by a green salad with no dressing and a side of rice or pasta for dinner, a granola bar and ham sandwich for lunch, a bowl of Vector cereal for breakfast, and a 27gram serving of protein along with a banana after rugby/abs. I also get atleast 7 hours of sleep so I'm well rested.

I am no stranger to the gym, but during rugby which lasts from feb-may I do not go, this lasts for about 3-4 months and I've always carried around an extra bit of weight around my stomach area, not a gut or anything, just a little extra meat.. I have big arms and legs that have barely any fat on them and a muscular chest but I want to have visible abs and more overall definition.

I'm just wondering if I'm on the right track, and if so, how long will it take for me to start *seeing* results?

Sounds like you are on the right track. You should add more fruits and vegetables to your diet and maybe cut out the rice and pastas for awhile. Keep working at the exercise that is the key, burn more than you take in will result in weight and fat loss. Try eating 4 to 6 small meals a day as well.

Thanks for the advice.
After my girlfriend returned from a trip she noticed I had been a little thinner and I heard the same thing again today when a guy I used to work with said I also looked thinner.

So I guess what I am doing is working!

Ab workouts daily?

If you're wanting to build up the size and strength of your abs through resistance training then you need to treat them like other muscles, breaking them down then giving them adequate time to repair.

If you're working them every single day I don't see a time when they get the rest they need to repair and grow bigger and stronger...

Also i'm sure you already know it but i'll say it anyway: you could work them for years but if the fat doesn't shift they won't become visible.

I can't say when you'll start seeing results but certainly not after one week ;) You should be able to lose about 1lb a week, more for some people, or less if it's the last stubborn fat you're trying to shift.

Get a full body workout in 3 x a week if you can, lift big (i've seen 5x5 recommended a lot of times during cutting) so you can maintain your muscle mass.

Check your diet, as you haven't given much detail, have you tracked a day to the T, to check you are in a deficit? Also as you lose weight you will need to reduce the calories gradually to stay in deficit.

You probably need more protein and slightly less carbs (try and keep them to before and after a workout perhaps).
